Had work today. Was almost reduced to tears with a woman insisting that her shoes were 25% off (neither scanner nor gun confirmed this, leading me to suggest sloppy signage), and her two lamps 20%. Could not raise anyone for love nor money on the phones. Had them paged; no dice. Supes were busy. Ended up getting supervisor, who advised me to give them to her at the discounted price. Woman ranted at supervisor at how she had to wait there for twenty minutes (it was probably not that long, but it was certainly a long time, and far longer than it ought to have been). She did, however, say that I had absolutely done my best, which was a relief. I am all too used to customers treating me as Seaton some sort of devil to be thwarted at every point ("You see a wile, you thwart.")
Also had Liam's birthday celebration. Hedda and Liam gave me my Christmas present (which I found perplexing. Isn't that what Boxing Day is designed for?), which was Eats, Shoots and Leaves, by Lynne Truss - a book I would have bought six months ago had I the cash - and I must say it's even better than I had expected. I have been accidentally reading it for the last two hours and had not realised the hour had worn so late.
Are my friends trying to keep me in my house all summer? Between Truss and Lost, they are definitely making a concerted effort. And I'm not sure I mind.
To bed.
