*Thwaps NaNoWriMo* You are set in 1899. This means that Bertie cannot have an elder brother who died in the Great War. I don't care what the angst value is. The Great War won't start for another fifteen years. Similarly, this Bertie has very little in common with Bertie Wooster. He does not play the banjolele, and he should not talk as if he's just stepped into the jazz age. Deirdre, you're not a flapper. Don't talk like one.

He could have a brother that died in the Boer War, or one of the other african conflicts...

Or in the Crimea. Or in the Raj, or somewhere else in the Empire. Those uppity colonials, you know...

*nods* I thought that there must have been a bunch of wars around that time that an elder brother could have bought it in, but Bertie was going, "WOE! My brother died in WWI, making me the eldest!" And I'm like, "Dude. He did not. Cut it out."

I hate it when they do that. One of mine was whinging about the time period and I had to be all =; at him.

*giggles* Yes.

Bertie finds his friend buried under a pile of books and paper, with only her feet sticking out, and he thinks that she looks like the witch from Wizard of Oz. Considering her... shrewish temperament, he found this hilarious.

Which it would have been, had the Wizard of Oz not been published the year after this was set. I swear I'm never doing a historical again...

Well, I'd like to think I'm a bit more historically accurate than Hollywood...

Are you acknowledging that they didn't have computers and that the stars weren't just strange hallucinations brought on by the common usage of LSD as an antipersperant, and therefore the entire culture was doomed to rot?

Yes.

Therefore, you're more historically accurate than Hollywood.

*snugs* I know what you mean... my characters are evil and have decided that they want to email each other, also there's a certain paragraph that wants to be rewritten and continuously, repeatedly inserted at random intervals to up the word count.
