By now you ought to all be familiar with Fat Lady Digest. This is just to let you know that we've extended the deadline, so you have until next week to get those stories & essays in. So if you haven't started yet, get writing!

Miss you.

In historical perspective, a love for someone greater than love for life itself, a love that obliterates the mundane world, wife, property, nation, children, is most typically a feature of the discourse of a same-sex lover. Which is why ‘would that all the Trojans died and all the Greeks as well, and you and I, Patroclus, alone survived to demolish Troy’s holy crenellations’ were considered by ancient commentators just about the gayest lines in the Iliad.
"Mr and Mr and Mrs and Mrs" by James Davidson in the London Review of Books, on The Friend by Alan Bray

P.S. my love: Oxford says BCE = Before the Common Era. So I didn't pull it from nowhere. Perhaps the nun claimed it was Before the Christian Era so she could buck the system without getting into trouble?

I never thought I'd hear the words "kick, ball, change" as part of a DUI arrest. What's up with American police that they have to go through all this? Why don't they just use a breathalyser?

Does anyone recognise this image? )

Today I solved a FIENDISH sudoku from The Times (London) which I downloaded. Also a "mild" sudoku, because I got frustrated when I'd only written three numbers in the fiendish puzzle. NEVERMIND! It is all solved. I am pleased and may now go to bed.
