Had a mild disagreement with Cox as to the correct pronunciation of chimaera/chimera (which is a unit in Warcraft). I've always pronounced the word with a hard c and a silent h, while Cox pronounced it with a ch sound as in church. Getting home I enquired of my father, who pronounced it with a sh. However, I've since looked it up on dictionary.com, and (if I'm reading the pronunciation guide correctly) it is pronounced with a hard c. This is backed up by the fact that it's a Greek word, and my Classics professor always pronounced Chiron as Kai-rone (if I recall correctly), ie with a hard C sound.

I'm not sure whether I'm relieved that I'm right or somewhat disturbed.

...Just read today's BMB. Those who don't read the comic just bear with me a moment while I go
AAIIIIEEEEE!!!!!!

Boy, are the people on the forum going to be surprised. ("I was getting all excited about Skids/Cy, but this is shaping up to be Skids/Tybalt...")

Please.

I'd agree about the hard 'c', for your reasons listed above.

People will always find new and exciting ways to pronounce words. Wrongly.

i cant believe all you fucking arts students make such a big deal about the littlest bullshit. I dont even remember that argurement, even if there was an argurement at all. And the fact that you then when on to look it up and ask for other opinions is very disturbing. Besides, how was i supposed to know how it was fucking pronounced, id never even herd of them before W3

So i have decided that im still gona pronounce it my may in direct protest to the bullshit that we call the english language.

and for all you people who have noticed and criticised every little spelling and grammer mistake, please refer back to the first line.

Honey, I wasn't making a big deal about it. I wasn't criticising you at all. I was merely interested in discovering how it was really pronounced. If you'll notice I said "mild disagreement" not argument. We didn't agree on how to pronounce it. Nowhere did I say that there was an argument. You're perfectly entitled to pronounce it HOWEVER THE FUCK YOU CHOOSE.

Well, chimera isn't exactly used in everyday conversation. It's like the Lusius/Lukeeus/Lucheeus/Looshus debate. I'm kinda glad I had it right, because I've been teased about mispronouncing things before.

Well, obviously not "everyone", since the other two people I spoke to about it didn't pronounce it that way at all.
