Mar. 4th, 2003 01:17 amHad a mild disagreement with Cox as to the correct pronunciation of chimaera/chimera (which is a unit in Warcraft). I've always pronounced the word with a hard c and a silent h, while Cox pronounced it with a ch sound as in church. Getting home I enquired of my father, who pronounced it with a sh. However, I've since looked it up on dictionary.com, and (if I'm reading the pronunciation guide correctly) it is pronounced with a hard c. This is backed up by the fact that it's a Greek word, and my Classics professor always pronounced Chiron as Kai-rone (if I recall correctly), ie with a hard C sound.
I'm not sure whether I'm relieved that I'm right or somewhat disturbed.
...Just read today's BMB. Those who don't read the comic just bear with me a moment while I go
