Some, my grandfather taught me a little and his remaining brother, but he was reluctant to say too much, he wanted me to forget my heritage, he was from Poland in the 1940s, he had some bad memories and thought being a gypsie was too dangerous for his family.

I know some traditional gypsie spells, mode of dress and some of szygiani. As well as basic traditions, such as cleanliness, Rom are obsessed with cleanliness, especially bodily fluids. Even speaking of them (blood, saliva etc) is crude and rude.

He wouldn;t talk of it much, given that he had to flee from a concentration camp and all. Besides his remaining family won;t talk much to me, gah, I'm just another gaje to them.

yup, like gorgio but slightly less offensive (not much less though there doesn;t seem to be any REAL nice ways to say non-gypsie in Szygiany)

Of course my great-uncle's youngest calls me "prala" which is brother, or sometimes male kinsman, or even male rom at times, (until he was told not to) but it was still cool :)

I don't really get along with most of my relatives either, but that's mostly because they leave two states away and are lazy bogans.

There's not really too much politics going on in our family...at least not that I'd know about. They just wouldn't lift a finger to save us from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, to steal a phrase from the delightful Douglas Adams.

When I first met Liam's cousin, the first throught I had was "I wonder how long he's staying in Melbourne?" It simply didn't occur to me that some people have relationships other than extremely long distance with their cousins. Liam's cousin in question doesn't even live a suburb away from him.

yeah sorry about that. It's one of those moments where I do crazy things that i remember, but seem to make sense at the time. I think it came out of a weird dream i had and I got freaked out.
