Tasmania!!!
Feb. 19th, 2002 03:26 pmOf all the places in Australia, Tasmania is somewhere I never exactly pictured I'd turn up. I've spent countless time travelling up and down the east coast of Australia with family, but there wasn't anything to particularly draw me to Tasmania. I would have expected that, if anything, I would be here checking out the wonderful old growth forests. Because, although I am a city girl, see one city you've seen them all.
However, here we are in Hobart in an internet access basement with a lady who by her accent is deaf. Not exactly where I thought I'd be spending my holidays, but I'm happy. I bought a funky purple-maroonish jacket that I couldn't afford (I get paid on Thursday thank god). It's all Carol's fault. We went into Harris Scarfe to check out the bad ties Laim had not bought earlier in the day, and Carol's a girly-girl who actually looks at clothing when in a department store. I did need a new jacket rather badly though, and it goes down to my knees, so I'm ecstatically happy. I've wanted a knee length jacket for awhile.
The trip over was interesting, but I won't say too much here. Suffice to say I've already scripted the comic for it, and I'll draw & colour it this weekend. It should be up next Monday. It involves bikers, so you know it's got to be good.
General relaxedness. Sharing backseat with Liam (in purely platonic way, of course) and us belting out Paul's campy tunes (I have two Paul McDermott CDs custom made for this trip; one campy Paul with lots of Mark Trevorrow & some Marcia Hines, one serious Paul), West Side Story and Moulin Rouge was far preferable to having to share the backseat with Kara and Nyssa. Last time we did the serious road trip our music tastes were not exactly compatible. And my mother likes Country and Western. 'Nuff said.
Nat's neuroses concerning Jemma is understandable, but a little scary. I've never seen her with this much self-doubt. Worse, nothing we can say will reassure her. Which is absurd, because I think all three of us (Liam, Carol and myself) could not be more aware of how much Jemma is thrilled that Nat's in town.
Think that's about all my news. I'm a bit low on sleep and low on general immune systemness, but I refuse to let that get to me down. I'm on holiday!!
In other news, I want gummy worms.
