Still penniless and inkstained
Jun. 20th, 2006 09:43 amI've had a bastard of a last week and a half when it comes to my physical health. I got a bit of a cold Sunday before last, which was enough to knock me out both Sunday and Monday, meaning I slept in a bit and generally felt under the weather. I slept badly the rest of the week, finding it difficult to fall asleep, and harder to get up. Halfway through the week my back and shoulders seized up, making it even harder to sleep through the pain. I went to Marilla-the-kinesiologist (thank goodness), who eased it a bit, but I'm still stiff. I made another appointment for today, which I'm hoping will iron it out further.
Saturday I got the period pain from hell, and as we'd already committed that I'd drive Hedda around all day for some Yule preparation, there was worlds of not-fun involved. When we returned home at about 7.30–8, I went straight to bed. Saturday night neither of us slept. We didn't wake up on Sunday until after ten. I struggled to make it into the city for my writer's group, and then really struggled to do anything even remotely useful. Still, I enjoyed it, and made a bit of a start on a new novel (I just couldn't work on the old one. I'm out of my groove, and I was too sleepy-stupid).
I got sick again yesterday. This hardly surprised me, as I most frequently get sick when I haven't had enough sleep. I have a perpetual slight sinus-cold, have since I was twelve or so, which I suspect takes a lot out of my immune system. Yesterday I woke up with a sore throat, which as S—— knows is not uncommon when my sinuses might block themselves up in the night, leaving my throat a bit dry-sore from being breathed through. This wasn't like that. This was jeebus-it-hurts-to-swallow. I had bugger-all to drink in the morning as a result. Everything hurt. Then I had a massive headache that just lasted all day.
Somewhere in that little bundle of pain and misery, I found out from my friend Jess who works at Oxbridge that they've decided to promote within the company. This just made me so gleeful. So, yesterday was a big write-off.
I'm feeling better today. My throat still hurts, but the headache's not there (I think I was dehydrated). Today I have decided I will be a fairy princess. I'm also going to make fairy cakes, but I'm going to make them orange-scented, and instead of the mock cream my mother used to put in them, I'm going to use Vegan cream cheese and flavour them with the orange liqueur I bought for the mud cake. I'm quite looking forward to using my new mixing bowls—
I forgot to mention! Last Saturday, when out with Hedda, I checked out Target to find out how much the vulva bowls were going for. I couldn't find them in the cooking section, which worried me. I thought I must have missed my chance, but then we found them on the clearance table. I bought three, in two different colours (very matchy-matchy) and sizes, and the whole lot cost me about $11.20. That's about as much as I was expecting to pay for one.
In a break from your regularly scheduled mope fest with a little parcel of awesome:
Newly elected leader of the U.S. Episcopal Church Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori said on Monday she believed homosexuality was no sin and homosexuals were created by God to love people of the same gender.
