I think I want to rename my journal Glorious! The exclamation mark is very important. Then I would be glorious!.livejournal.com. It would be awesome.

I made San Choy Bow last night. I fell in love with it when I had it at a restaurant, and then made it a few times from the dodgy Asia At Home kits, which charge you five bucks for some water chestnuts and sauce. I've been missing it.

Anyway, Alex Jamieson, she of the relationship with "Super-Size Me" Morgan Spurlock, has a recipe in her book The Great American Detox. It is rather heavy on the ginger, but strangely it all works.

Because today's Friday, S—— decided to go easy on her parents, and told them they could have porridge this morning. I made a berry sauce for them to have on top. She woke me as she was leaving to tell me that porridge was icky. She also left me a note on the kitchen table confirming this diagnosis. So, I didn't have any porridge (hate the stuff, anyway). I made lentil–brown rice–quinoa porridge and then had berry sauce on top. Yummy.

SO! Today I have Done Things, including finishing off the bathroom (we'd brought some of my stuff from my parents' place, and it needed to be put away neatly), putting a wash on (though I am yet to put it out), and some handwashing. HOWEVER! while handwashing, it seems that the first skirt I did got some dye on it, presumably from itself. This is tragic because it is one of our morris dancing skirts, more specifically S——'s skirt. I am hoping that it is not as noticable when dry, but I am still gutted.

I do not have to make anything for lunches for tomorrow. I am hoping that we can go to bed early as a result. WOO! I'm so tired.

I've applied for a place at Oxbridge University Press. I am really over being unemployed, and I think Oxbridge would be an awesome place to work. My best friend from my course already works there, and helped me give my resume and cover letter the once-over. Now all I can do is wait, dammit. I want a real job. I want to be able to buy things ... especially for the kitchen.

Things I am planning on buying:

  • Vulva bowls. Like the vulva cups they serve hot chocolate at Max Brenner's, but mixing bowls. You get them at Target. I am so sick of pulling out tupperware to stir bake-ery things in. Where are the mixing bowls in this house?? Plus, vulva bowls are easier to pour things from.

  • Lots of grinders. All our spices will be in grinders. We will have grinders for cardamom, cloves ... I may even buy a tiny grater for nutmeg. Grating my own nutmeg for the first time for that mudcake completely won me over. Give me fresh spices all the way, baby.

I don't know. I had lots of stuff in my head, but because I haven't written it down, I can't remember what. I know S—— wants a lettuce spinner. Also, once one of us has a proper source of income, I am sending her to bellydancing lessons. I may also go to some. I love dancing. There will be MORE DANCING, I tell you!

Now, I must fly! I have to go to the shops and buy tofu and wholemeal rolls as S——'s requested treat (she wants satay tofu burgers for dinner), and post her university transcript application, and also hang out the washing. The joys of being ein Hausfrau.

Ooh. I've never heard them called that (although it makes sense, come to think of it!) but I love those cups. They come in mixing bowls, too?? I'm not sure how well they would work as mixing bowls...I guess you'd have to nestle them point-up in the crook of your arm for hand beating/creaming, so the bottom would be a smooth round shape for stirring, otherwise the point might be awkward, and elextric mixing might be weird. But yes, they would be much easier to pour from if you were making a cake or something.

That would be me. My term. Sorry! I had a hot chocolate at Max Brenner's one day (before I was vegan, if memory serves), and there was a dusting of chocolate in line from point to round, if that makes sense.

I think the bowls still have a flat base, but they have that pointed end for pouring, which I think is a huge bonus. I want some. I also want vulva cups, because I know where to get them for $12 instead of $40 (MB's is such a rip off). Plus then I can get the joys of Max Brenner while still enjoying my veganism.

Oh D doesn't use them for "proper" beating (to fluffy white peaks and all that) or for teh machina. More for just random mixing bowls for like, types of beans and stuff.

Also, cause of veganess there is no eggs and less beating, since beating egg replacer is like beating cornflour and water. It just gets some bubbles on the top.

Aww, you can't rename your journal glorious! because LJ won't accept any characters besides the hyphen or underscore.

You guys make Vegan sound good. :( It is not good when I try it here. :( WHY MUST YOU TORTURE ME.

What are Vulva bowls? Mixing bowls are a Thing of mine. I started over with the last apartment and I bought a set of white plastic ones with a pour-lip and rubber bases so they were non-slip. Then I found hugemongous metal ones at Ikea that I could not resist. But one is so big it won't fit in the dishwasher.

Mom has an electric grinder she uses for coffee beans and an electric grinder she uses for spices. Tis awesome.

Yay for jobs. Jobs are good.

I know. But it would be awesome if I could!

You probably need to make vegan food yourself. Plenty of places make bad or just dull vegan or vegetarian food, which I think is dumb, since there's so much room for flavour. My favourite recipe book, Vegan Planet is worth checking out. It's American (with all the headaches re: amounts that causes for an Australian cook!), so you should be able to find it over there. I also recommend Vegan for One, by Leah someone (Lineman?). It's British but has translations of all measurements. It's v. easy to cook from, and all the recipes are less involved than those of Vegan Planet. I have some vegan recipes in my "recipes" section of memories, like here and here. I can also email you my recipe for "Mexican lasagne". I love food!

Have you been to Max Brenner's and seen what he terms "hug mugs"? They're sort of a rounded teardrop shape. Vulva bowls are what I've termed the mixing bowls that Target used to sell that are broadly the same shape, but not quite as rounded. Due to the shape I imagine they will be easy to pour from. I have wanted them for ages and just picked three up in two pretty colours very cheaply, for Target was getting rid of them. One is quite small, and I'll use it for mixing up salad dressings and sauces and things, one is medium-sized, and one large. I can't wait to use them all!

My parents have an electric one they use for coffee, too. I investigated a non-electric spice mill for our flaxseeds (essential for Omega 3 fatty acids!), but it cost about $60, so we're using a little grinder like a salt- or pepper-grinder. It's very cute, and the most effective thing I've used so far!

Yes. I want one. Now. I want the job I just applied for! It's awful having to wait to hear.
