Of editing and other jobly things
Jan. 13th, 2006 11:15 amOne step closer to charging A Publisher for the work I did on a book about Princess Mary. I finally finished my online application for an ABN last week, I wrote up my invoice in Access yesterday (which took most of the day) and even designed a little dinkus to go on the letterhead. Today I called the tax department to find out about that pesky GST. I discovered:
... all of which means I actually have to reprint this invoice as I was instructed by my friend at the publisher that I needed to call it a "Tax Invoice".
EEEE! While I was halfway through typing that list, I got a call from D——, the company who occasionally gets me temping work, to say that there's an ongoing position on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8–5, for as long as I want it. AND it pays slightly better (50c per hour) than my current register monkey job, AND they're fixed hours, so I won't have any "Oops, we decided not to give you work this week" surprises, and I'll be earning, per week, just slightly under what Steph does. This will ease our financial burden considerably. Also, it's situated halfway between our two houses, which will make working while we're at her place much easier. And because it's ongoing, I can keep working there until I secure myself a "real" job – I could even do some freelance editing easily in the schedule it gives me. And it will give Steph and I a bit of cushioning just in case she's out of work for a month or so once her current contract ends. HOORAY!
- If you are earning less than 50,000 per annum, you don't have to register for GST (I haven't).
- If you haven't registered for GST, you may not, on pain of death, charge people for GST.
- If you're not charging GST, you MAY NOT call your invoice a "Tax Invoice".
