Rettsu Go Nihongo!
Dec. 16th, 2004 12:45 amToday: work. Much purchasing of things, mostly consisting of gifts, though I also finally got some new taper candles. They're very pretty. Also, I bought a KIMONO. It's secondhand (but in a chic sort of way, rather than urine-smelling op shop way), and is cotton, so hence is a Sensible Purchase, as I can wear it for summer. I'm all the most sugoi gaijin in the world tonight...who is also abusing the Japanese language for her own amusement.
Also: NAEWINTER. Who rocks. And also (incidentally) gave me Lost episodes 1 to 11, so finally I will know what you wacky Americans are talking about. These sort of things help me sleep at night.
I think this is possibly the wrongest remark I have ever made. Which is possibly why I am so amused by it. Someone responded to me with "meta-metaquote!", but I checked, and it's not there at
metaquotes, which means the person was either 1) lying, 2) being rhetorical, or option 3), which is I was so badass that they removed the post. As Steph said, Davan would be proud.
That's all I can think of, so let's continue with your regularly scheduled entry, most of which I wrote last night.
TV Guide Online: Playing hobbits probably helped the rumors. The joke goes like this: Why are hobbits like Englishmen?
Monaghan: Why?
TVGO: They sure seem gay.
Best. Joke. Ever. (Stolen from a quite amusing fandom claim that Dom is Gay. Really, he is. Heh. I really don't care much either way.)
I told my agent today, when she made the mistake of asking how the novel was going, that all was misery and gloom and that in addition I couldn't write for toffee. She pointed out cheerfully that we've had this conversation three quarters of the way through everything I've ever written in the last sixteen years, which frankly was not the kind of sympathetic response I was looking for*.
(*A properly sympathetic response might perhaps have involved sending someone over to my house carrying a large fruit basket containing a venomous and grumpy asp, so that I'd have a really good excuse to give my editors for not finishing this book viz. and to wit. being a bit too dead to keep writing.)
I love you, Neil.
Bad Santa. I find this such a fascinating idea.
Willy Wonka eats babies.
My December present from Steph was the best teapot ever. It has a little stand you put a tealight in, and it keeps it warm. I have my own teapot! *dances* I think I'd actually really like a tea cosy as well, though. I like tea cosies. They're just like beanies, only for teapots.
I'm very tempted to find a pattern and knit one. In dark green and grey. (And also in stripes of blue and green, because that's the other type of wool I have.) It may be far beyond my skills as a knitter, though (in that I do not understand knitting patterns. At all).
I am not catching up on my flist tonight. I am WATCHING LOST. See you in a few days.

Date: 2004-12-15 07:21 am (UTC)...You should see if you could knit one in rainbow wool, and stick on a propeller. Now THAT's a conversation piece. :)
Can you take a picture of the kimono or perhaps let us know in a wee bit more detail what it looks like?
Also: rather than urine-smelling op shop way is the most horribly evocative thing I've heard in a good long while. *shudder*
How big is the teapot? As in, "mine! mine! ahahahaha.....oh, hell, no refills" or "hell yes we'll get use out of these leaves"?
