*throws up hands in defeat*
Sep. 9th, 2004 12:50 amThat's it. I'm done. No more tweaking the bloddy styles. I have probably spent ten or more hours on the damn' things, and that's more than enough. So, if you're interested, have a look at my journal. Altered the userinfo, too ... in that I deleted the thing and put an image instead. Cut back on my interests, too. And of course, I redid my icons to match the theme. Only have 36 uploaded, too. First time in quite a while that I've had icon space.
Just read an interesting article on Milton's Paradise Lost. Makes me actually want to go back and read the His Dark Materials series again, after first reading Paradise Lost, and seeing if I appreciate it more the second time around.
Realised yesterday that Target had failed to tell me the details of my shifts this week, so I called up today. After being dicked around a bit, and having to call back because someone was on her lunchbreak, I was told that I had no shifts for this week or next week, as the rosters are done two weeks in advance.
Now, call me Mr Stupid, but if I was having a whole bunch of new employees coming in, and the rosters were being done in advance, I'd leave space in the roster for them. Especially since I know they had our availabilities more than two weeks ago.
Nevertheless, I have a shift next Thursday as someone had called to say they couldn't make it. One shift. For this week and next week. Of three-and-a-half hours. Woo. That's going to go a long way to helping me pay my car registration. Or feeding me.

Yes. Target is stupid.
What they meant to say was that the computers do the rosters two weeks in advance, and because you weren't employees two weeks ago you weren't in the computer system, see?
It's still stupid though. How hard is it to put in "newemloyee1" "newemployee2" etc and change their names later?
duuuuuuuuh...

Date: 2004-09-08 06:43 pm (UTC)And yes, a lot of Philip Pullman's themes, imagery and characters lend very strongly from Milton and Blake. Lord Asriel is very much Milton's Satan, who goes and builds his own version of Pandemonium and wage war against the Authority. Similarly, the idea of original sin is rooted in sexual desire (which is what attracts "dust"), and he reflects Blake's criticisms of a church that attempts to repress these desires, and separate the two parts of the human soul (ie. cutting people from their daemons). There is so much there... I was, for a while, considering writing my thesis on it.

Date: 2004-09-08 10:33 pm (UTC)*preens* It'd better be good. It took me long enough. It's not that hard to do, just fiddly. I'm sure you could code your own, if you wanted.
