Crash, tinkle it fell to the floor...
Jun. 11th, 2004 02:19 amI discovered tonight that I am the only person on the face of the earth who pronounces magus with a soft g (I was pronouncing it animajus, or in dictionary speak, "ae ligature, n, small capital i, m, ae ligature, d curly-z, upside-down v, s"), when it should be pronounced with a hard g, even though the plural form (magi) is pronounced with a soft g, as is mage (a Middle English derivation of magi, according to dictionary.com. My Concise Macquarie Dictionary contains neither magus, magi or mage). Bloody English.
So yeah. Went to see Prisoner of Azkaban tonight with Cleansweep people, after borrowing $10 of my thirteen-year-old sister (oh, the shame). It was good, and I made a new friend (
musewhipped). Didn't see as many people as I would have liked to. This is in part because no one was wearing nametags, and I am shocking at fitting names to faces, and partly due to NoTime (TM). Cleansweep so needs to meet more often. And I also need to meet up with
vonlooney and
jessindistress more often.
musewhipped and I did retire to a park afterwards and talk for a bit, which was good. Well, part of the time it was just me talking at her, because I do that. >_< Oh well. We did agree that we should have a Cleansweep Rocky Horror night. It would be great fun.
In the end, it was probably better that Jess and Steph couldn't make it, as I would have doubtless spent all my time with them, and not catching up with/talking to the fandom people.
Oh, and Alfonso Cuaron is cool. And I loved his little twiddly "time passes" scene changes. They amused me greatly.
[Edit: I was just reading a HP news site, and it was talking about the Australian Premier. WTF? I think. Our premiers are leaders of states, not the country. Our country's leader is the Prime Minister. Then I worked out that it was actually talking about the Premiere. I was amused.]

Date: 2004-06-14 08:51 am (UTC)(in my case, it's probably because I've spent a lot of time reading over the years, and vert little time talking to people who use words like "animagus")
(so do you pronounce Lego like "Leggo" or "Laygo" ?)

Date: 2004-06-11 11:44 pm (UTC)And don't apologise for 'talking at' me. :D That's the inescapable result of one person knowing what they're talking about, and the other learning something she didn't know about. =P It's not like I have no interest in being pimped new fandoms... though my wallet may not thank you.
I'm glad the interview went well! *crosses fingers*
*t00bs off*
