Because I'm hours ahead of the States, I didn't find out about "Poetry on your blog" day until it was May already.

So here, especially enclosed in a stasis field, direct from April, is my poem. It was one of my favourites when I was a kid.

The Optimist

We shouldn't complain, he said.
It's good for the crops, he said.
the cockies need it
it'll fill the dams,
the cows will feed this summer.

The rain poured down
till the crops washed out,
the dam walls broke
and the stock were drowned,
and still he cried

We're in our eighth year of drought in Victoria. But this is often how our droughts break -- flooding.

Ah, 'tis a wonderful country indeed.
