Fuck Orson Scott Card. Fuck him sideways and backwards. My interest in reading any of his works just plummeted faster than a baby tied to a safe.

Hmph. So. Birthday today. Parents got me various things, as well as a new bike helmet and an MP3 player. Kara got me Electric Six (mind you, I instructed her to, even played her the songs because she hadn't heard them), Nys got me 1602 issue 7, Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step, cinnamon tic tacs and a Butterfinger bar. We loves her right now.

Had dinner with my parents at Chadstone, which is a weekly thing for them. Went to see One Perfect Day again. It's still wonderful, and I cried again. Steph wasn't allowed to come out of her house, so I'm t00bing around at home. I've read my flist rather perfunctorily, mostly skimming for birthday wished, because dammit it's my birthday and we're allowed to be utterly self-involved one day per year. Today is my day. I'm off, now. Going to go watch some LOTR:TT special features, or maybe do a drawing. We'll see what happens.

Heh. I tried to read Ender's Game. I got bored. Because Ender was a little Mary Sue. And I put it aside and tried to go back to it later and couldn't and went to my father and said, "Daddy. Does Ender EVER FUCKING SCREW UP!?" and Dad looked at me and said "No." and I put it away never to touch it again.

So I don't think you're missing much.

Hehehe. Know the feeling. And frankly, the way that my mate Tych goes on about it incessantly when provoked doesn't really make me want to read it all that much.

I don't know what Card is suddenly so squeamish about, he who wrote Songmaster, which contained burly men schtupping pretty little boys.

Again with the loving of the icon.

You mean you haven't figured out that his portrayal of Homosexuality in fiction is infact, mocking them?

really? I hadn't actually noticed. It seemed no different than the heterosexual scifi/fantasy sexualities, just as exploitative and stereotypical.

Heh, thanks. I made it in response to Troy being on its way out--I'm really afraid that it's going to be a bad film. I mean, Clash of the Titans was terrible, but it had these stop-motion animation techniques that were revolutionary for the time. And you know, fighting skeletons always rock.

Ender's Game is fantastic, the other Ender games get steadily worse, and much of his other stuff is way too Christian.

Such is life.

Well, Ender's Game is definitely worth reading, and stands alone.
By all means ignore the rest though ;-)

Fuck Orson Card, but I am still in awe of his ability to insult so many people in one go. Then I say "WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK!" and get cross.

He (OSC) sounds like a bit of a moron.

The law has never asked that a man prove his heterosexuality in order to marry a woman, or a woman hers in order to marry a man.

Any homosexual man who can persuade a woman to take him as her husband can avail himself of all the rights of husbandhood under the law. And, in fact, many homosexual men have done precisely that, without any legal prejudice at all.

Wouldn't that be the point of the whole bloody thing that THEY DON'T WANT TO MARRY THE OPPOSITE GENDER?! *fumes*

Happy Birthday!

I know. I read that first sentence you've quoted and just thought that he'd missed the whole fucking point of marriage, if nothing else. What a fucktard.

Thanks!

I do this thing where I open a bunch of links from LJ and then read them all in a bunch. So I was reading this thing about gay marriage, and getting more and more annoyed at the person who wrote it, and because I forgot where I'd gotten the link from I wondered who in the LJ universe I had nasty things to say to...

And then I clicked the back button and reminded myself that it was from you and how you framed it, and it all made sense.

So, yes, I too will not be reading Cardian crap. And Happy Birthday to you! Apropos of nothing, that is. I still have a tape for you with crap on it, if you're interested...

Heh, I do the same thing. My problem is that I often open them in tabs within the same window (I usually use either Mozilla Firebird or Netscape), and sometimes I've already forgotten where they've come from by the time I go to read them (they open in the background. I love that function) and have to hunt through my flist.

Thank you!

Well, I'm in at RMIT on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so we can try and meet up then...

I read Enders game, but I can't remember there being anything particularly memorable about it. The ending wasn't bad, but the book wasn't as spectacular as I'd been lead to believe.

Interestingly, the introduction written by OSC about the writing and publishing of the book, and his critics and fans, came across as incredibly self absorbed, so I'm not hugely surprised by this article. Well, I'm hugely surprised that anyone thinks that way, but beyond that, that it was him I'm not so surprised.

this is not a surprise - an intern wrote about his conservativeness in an article at salon.com, years ago. i remember being very distressed to hear it!

and *thinks* haven't read any of his stuff since, in fact, tho not intentionally.

i'd just like to take Barthes 1968 somewhat literally in his case. ;)

that is a fucking long article. i call it USEFUL tho... most conservatives aren't so plain about their real motivations.
