Conversation earlier tonight:
Sister: So, you going out this Friday night?
Me: Nope.
S: Oh.
M: Why?
S: I was just going to have friends over--
M: And you're afraid I'll cramp your style?
S: No. It's just that I thought you had Cox's party. Isn't that this Friday?
M: *pauses, panics, runs to room, checks invite glued to door*
M: *runs back* Yes. Yes, it is. Thank you for that.

Whelp, back to FOTR. I want to get this finished, dammit. And I'm not admitting to the fact that I translated my name into Elvish (Quenya specifically, not Sindarin). Nope. Because that would be terribly geeky. I didn't use one of the many LOTR fonts on my computer to write it in Tengwar, either. Nor did I wibble about whether to use JRR or Christopher Tolkien's standard for writing vowels.

Lingustics

My husband is a linguist. He is always writing in many languages. Including both types of elvish. Maybe there are three? I don't remember. I just wanted you to know you're not the only one. I don't think it's weird to write in Elvish, it's something you/he loves. There's nothing wrong with writing in the languages you love. Even if they're not languages by others to be as wonderful as you think them.

Aha, you wrote it all out by hand instead :)

Oh wait, that was me, many years ago, when I first discovered Tolkien. I wrote something longish in English using Tengwar, then tried to make the piece of paper look ancient and important (rubbed some dirt in, burnt some of the edges, crumpled it a few times). The sadder bit is that I've probably still got it somewhere ...

So, at least you've got company in the land of full-fledged nerddom :-)

There's Sindarin and Quenya, which are the kind of more fully formed languages, and then there's Qenya, which is the precursor. I *think* that's it.

I don't know much Quenya, I'm just interested in language for language's sake, I guess. Call it intellectual curiosity. ;)
