ARGH! Worse, I've had some sort of brain-fart and decided that "Deirdre" was a Scottish name, when it is, of course, Irish. Well done me. *facepalm*

Isn't "Deirdre" also the name of some evil sexy Irish goddess? Maybe her parents were into more sinister things that the plot initially suggested... (Hey, if a few demonic orgies up the word count... ;P)

That's probably it. I had a friend named Deirdre and she told me the story once, but it was a very long time ago and my mind likes to change important details (like the actual facts). :P

I've been to a few Wendy Rule gigs. She has a song called "Three Colours" about the Deirdre myth, and she tends to tell a version of the myth before playing it. (Usually while she's retuning her guitar.) I therefore know it vaguely well.
