Saw Finding Nemo after work (LAST DAY!!!) with Chris and Sara. Was briefly concerned that I'd feel like a third wheel, but that didn't happen. It rarely does with those two. Somuchlove. ^_^

Then went back to their place and hung around for hours. >_< Prolly shouldn't have done that. Have to be there tomorrow morning at 9.30. Erk.

[livejournal.com profile] tocomfortyou wrote an impassioned comment to my post that mentioned 11th September (9/11 doesn't work for us non-Americans - that means the 9th of November, and we just get confused) that was spot on. I must admit to skimming, as I was at Sara's, but I'm pretty sure I got the gist. I want to try and clarify my position so she doesn't end up hating me for something I'm not saying. If I have to be hated, I'd rather it be for something I am/really mean. On the other hand, I'm afraid to try and write a clarifying post as it may make things worse rather than better. This is the sort of thing I'd rather suggest that I shout her a coffee and we talk about it in person, so as to fully understand each other. Damn these continental boundaries!

I also have an academic essay broiling in my head about terrorism. Have jotted down a note or two, and I'd really like to have the time and write it properly. I'm finding it really interesting - which usually means I'm probably going to get really fired up, but get everything very, very wrong. I'm so good at that.

It's all too much for me right now. I'm far too tired. Let's see if I have the energy (and courage) to try tomorrow.

have you ever read?

Have you ever read Morning Fix at SFgate. The guy is great. Yes, some of his rants are extremely liberal, but he is hilarious and usually makes a few good points.

small-L liberalism is good.

I've started reading the article, and it's really interesting.

I am, but I don't think I'm *that* good. Plus you need support crew and stuff.

In theory, I'm going to be in the US in the latter half of next year. Coffee then? :P

Only if you're in CA. We're a big country, love.

I know; so are we.

Uh, San Diego's in CA, yes? And CA is California...?

Yeah man, Australia's so big. I always think of my country broken up into 50 little pieces but you guys...it's like, really mind-boggling to me. Or do you guys have certain areas or regions or principalities in which to divide the land?

Ahhh. San Diego's quite a bit far away from me, though. I'm up by San Francisco in the middle of CA, San Diego's a bizillion miles south.

(loffs for Monty Python)

We have five states and two territories. Most of our population is concentrated on the east coast, from Melbourne through Sydney and up to Brisbane. The population then dwindles the further north you go. There should be a map online that shows our states... our map-book-thingies...um, atlases, show a version of the US with all your states, so there should be one with our states... somewhere.

I haven't yet decided on where specifically I'm going - it all depends who wants to see me and where they live, at this stage. :)

Sadly, the only maps I have around me right now don't have anything divided up into regions (including the U.S.) so I shall stride on in igorance for a bit more. Though I feel I should defend my aforementioned ignorance from your latest post by saying that I wouldn't expect anybody to know *our* states, hell, I don't know them all. It's not an American thing, it's a human-beings-really-suck-at-memorization thing. I don't know the divisions of Canada, for Christ's sake, and you could rattle off a list of U.S. states and I'd locate them all somewhere on the East Coast. I bet Iowa looks just like New York, I bet. Is Iowa a state? I thought Michigan was that tiny place just below Zambia. *cough* Damn this Internet contraption, bringing everybody into an amalgram of nationalities! Damn it all! *thumps desk emphatically* We ought to live in Peopleland, with one big city and one big body of water and one big modem with enough high-speed Internet access for all. Health care, schmealth care, everyone deserves DSL!

Oooh. Colors.
I always get so confused dealing with the international community. I refer to the East Coast and they'll say, "OF WHAT?"

Got a call from an old friend, we used to be real close
Said he couldn't go on the American Way
Closed the shop, sold the house, bought a ticket to the West Coast
Now he gives them a stand-up routine in L.A.

Heh. If I'm talking to an American and they talk about the East/West Coast, I assume they mean of America. :)
