D00d... what a kickass day. That's right, donkey cruelty for all.

Work was... workish. There's no more to say about that.

At lunchtime I went up to the comic store, and they had most of my order in; Scars issues 1 & 2, and the final issue of Lady Constantine. I'd finished them all before I finished work. Scars is really moving. Issue two made me nauseous; everything you want in a story like that.

After work, I decided that enough was enough, and I was going to see the damn Matrix movie. Originally I'd planned to also sit in a cafe in Borders and do some writing, but time was against me.

It was the most exciting and fun thing to go to the cinema by myself. I decided it was going to be an artist's date (Nat knows what I'm talking about). I bought myself a coke and popcorn, and refused to feel guilty about spending the money. I decided early on I was going to enjoy the Matrix Reloaded for its pretty filmmaking and not for its story. I was right to do this, I think. Very pretty film. Story better than the first one, and the ante was definitely upped, but similar things annoyed me about this movie that annoyed me in the first one - most notably the clumsiness in using Biblical themes. During that whole 'offerings to Neo' bit, I just had the second half of the Temple song from JC Superstar in my head: "See my eyes, I can hardly see/See my hands I can hardly walk/I believe you can make me well/See my tongue I can hardly talk" &c. I did like that approximately the second half of the movie was devoted to unsettling the world we'd come to 'understand'. The twins rocked, like everyone said (although I must admit my weakness for British accents helped), but I feel I must make an important linguistic point:

The plural of virus is not virii. People derive this from the fact that radius becomes radii, but note that radius has an extra 'i' before 'us' that virus does not have. If you were to pluralise (I cannot believe that's a word, but it is.) virus along the same rules, you would only have viri. Note that while dictionary.com lists both radii and radiuses as correct plurals for radius, the only correct plural for virus is viruses. Use virii and you prove you are an illiterate wanker. Thank you.

I was amused by the fact that earlier today, I was listening to the second Romeo + Juliet soundtrack at work, and was wondering what had happened to the actor who played Mercutio, only to have him turn up in the first few minutes of the Matrix Reloaded, as a pretty major character, no less. That guy rocks my socks so hard.

Afterwards I went to Borders and browsed. They were having a sale on graphic novels (20% off), and they had a copy of Arkham Asylum (art by Dave McKean - I've wanted it for awhile) so I was lost. I also bought a book called "Batman: The Killing Joke" because it was written by Alan Moore and only cost about $12. So far it hasn't disappointed. I also bought a new Kurt Elling CD because the guy who did the music for Relic (who I think you know, Tati, am I right? Can you poke him and tell him to give them to you, and also a copy of the Relic music he promised me? I lost his mobile number when I lost my phone. Oh, and can you text me your mobile number again?) still has two of my old ones, and that was on sale too; only $15. I also bought two purple velvet-covered sketchbooks to write in. They, too, were on special, only $9.

I spent so much today, but I don't regret any of it. I'm so happy.

Out of general curiousity, wouldn't Octopus & Octopi also make a good example?

But yes, enough with the vocabulary and correct spelling. I'm planning to have an Animatrix Viewing, followed by a trip to some cinema to watch Reloaded again. What I lack is a DVD player or place to host this. So far, the general attitude that sometime after the 23rd of June is ideal. When after the 23rd are you free?

Well, not really. The point was that people use radii as the pattern for "virii" as plural for virus. It's the double 'i' that I'm protesting about.

Whenever. Weekends are best, or evenings after work.

*raises eyebrow* Could you be more monosyllabic if you tried?

And if you just answer "Yes" to this, I will thwap you. Similar punishments for "Maybe" or "No".

*drool* need new sketchbooks... $9 for velvet covered ones is awsome

been designing so much stuff lately that i've filled two within a a month...

I went on a bit of a spending spree myself today... more leather for making book covers with (for Grimoires, Journals, Photo Albums and Sketch Books)

a pair of special leather sheers (because my old scissors are well and truly dead)

and a novel I've been wanting to read for a while, because i'd read all the others in the series, and couldn't get that particular book from the library

I can justify the leather and tools, because they'll be useful, and i only feel a little guilty about the book

Oh, they're not big sketchbooks. They're just notebooks that have no lines. Hence, they're called sketchbooks. 9_9

Screw the guilt about the book. You deserve it. That's what I reckon. I allow myself one purchase of about $20-30 per week at the comic book shop. Keeps me sane. I really, really hate my work.

I am still in insane envy at those leather book covers you can create. :)

Harold Perrineau is his name, and he's been in a great big ol' bunch of stuff. Some of which I've even seen, though I don't recall what at the moment, except that he's in hard-hitting HBO prison drama series Oz, playing the narrator-type in a wheelchair.

Yeh, I went and looked him up on IMDB.

I don't watch Oz, assuming it's available in Aus, which it prolly ain't.

Yes. But... what's a PSA? Oh, public service announcement. *agrees emphatically*

We'll make a community called Language PSAs, then. People could write short entries on common mistakes and how to avoid them. *nods*

Muchloff for that movie. I'll have to sit down and watch it again. *grins*

Me and two of my mates (Liam & Saxon) sung through the entire opera (including the overture) from beginning to end. It rocked muchly. I like taking Annas, Judas & Jesus's parts, although one has to share. *pouts*
