Hee hee. Tybalt's such a drama queen.

I went and stood in Sanity for about an hour or two trying to decide what to spend a birthday gift voucher on. They didn't have half the stuff I wanted, and I couldn't decide on what I wanted of the stuff they did have. All the music I was looking at was (rather inexplicably) in the "Hardcore" section. This all-encompassing section included wonderful things like Blink 182, Vast and Reel Big Fish, but also for some reason included Coldplay and Ani Difranco. The Sex Pistols weren't there, however. They were over in the "Core Bands" section (or something similarly and strangely named). This section included such artists as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bette Midler and Avril Lavigne. O.O

I was originally going for RBF, but they only had one CD of theirs, and about half the tracks were ones I already had. I decided for a bit that I wanted a Sex Pistols CD, but decided that I wasn't really sure enough. I couldn't commit to Gorillaz, and I had both Vast albums they had in stock. (I thought Vast were about to/had already released a new album? Obviously not...) I even went up to the counter to ask about Voltaire, thinking that this would be amusing.

I had spent a fruitless afternoon about a year and a half ago asking at every CD store in the city about Voltaire, only to be met by blank looks, even after they'd checked their catalogues. I eventually got understanding at Peril Underground (the punkish-gothish shop which is in a basement off an alley near Flinders Station), and ordered in Almost Human and Devil's Bris, which I'm pretty sure were the only albums released at the time. I came back once a week for a month or two, and then stopped coming in when they still didn't have them in for me. I got a mobile phone call one day at the bus stop on the way to work when Devil's Bris came in. I still haven't heard about Almost Human, and they still have my deposit.

To my eternal shock and surprise, Sanity now have him on their database, which I discovered after having to spell his name to the girl three or four times ("V-O-L-T-A-I-R-E. Like the French Philosopher." "Mmm. Do you know the name of any of the albums?"). They could order the CDs in for me, but they'd cost 43 dollars each. I only had a $30 voucher, and I wanted instant gratification, dammit. And I was buggered if I was going to spend $43 on an album I have in MP3 form anyway. Maybe if it was his new album, sure. (Has that one been released yet? I'm a bit behind the times, I think.)

All the joy of stumping the clerk was gone with Voltaire actually being in the catalogue. In another two years' time, they might actually have a CD in stock...

I ended up with a Blink 182 CD, Dude Ranch. It's one done before Travis joined the group, evidentally, but I'm afraid I know too little about the band's history to expand further. My sister says that she's heard that Dude Ranch is the best CD they've done, which is relieving for me, but I couldn't help but feel sorry for Travis. The best CD they've ever done and he's not even part of the band yet? That's kinda harsh. I missed Travis's tattoos in the band photos, too.

The CD only cost me $20, so I spent the last $10 on pussy and beer.

...that's a lie. I bought two singles. They're the first and only singles I've ever bought, so I guess they should feel special. I bought t.A.T.u., because I was curious and I'm pretty sure I've seen them mentioned on my friends list, possibly by lucylouLucy, and I bought Good Charlotte, for much the same reason. Asking my sister about it later (she knows far more about music than me, which admittedly isn't hard), she told me of two of her friends who are reportedly avid fans, of the mild stalker type. I vaguely recall the story, so I'm pretty sure she must have told me of them before.

Much to my surprise, I really liked the Good Charlotte single (that terminology is such a misnomer since both had four tracks. Perhaps it should be a third?). It reminded me quite strongly of Blink, with a little of RBF's vocal stylings in there too. Perhaps when I get a job or get another CD voucher again, I'll get their CD.

I wasn't unhappy with any of my "purchases" (they gave me three CDs and a five cent piece in exchange for a receipt in a cardboard folder. Ha!). I even liked t.A.T.u., though they're not really my "type". They're the sort of music you enjoy but don't really go out of your way to purchase. They do get super-bonus points for the anime/manga yuri cover, though. That cover was part of my decision to purchase the single; I'll happily admit to that in court. The Blink CD was funky, too, and it had A New Hope. That song rocks.

"It's against the law to deface public property, ma'am."
"This man said he loved me, and I caught him eating another woman's pussy."
"... Carry on, ma'am."
Heh. I haven't watched Sex in the City in ages.

I have my driving test at 9.10am tomorrow morning, and my instructor is picking me up at 7.30am, an ungodly hour.

In other news, I ordered a new pair of glasses today, made enquiries about contact lenses (not until I can come up with $100 for the consultation fees) and sent off [livejournal.com profile] aabashenya's letter. Reasonably productive, considering I also managed to get home in time to cook dinner.

Started working on the "Drive Smart" CD which is released by the TAC (Transport Accident Commission) to help learner drivers. Rather late, I'll admit. I must say that they need videos in significantly higher resolution. It's quite frustrating not noticing one of their hazards because it's only a few pixels big.
