Draco's going blind, he was sure of it. Rather that than accept the knowledge that he was crying.
Tears of rage, certainly, but also tears of disappointment, betrayal and loss.
"Don't you dare walk away from me, Potter. Don't you dare!"
"It was just meant to be a distraction, Malfoy. Nothing was ever serious. You knew this was going to end. Don't be bitter just because you weren't the one to lose interest first."
He was so quickly reverting back to the old them, the them Draco thought dead and buried that night in the abandoned classroom on the third floor. The Potter, the Harry that Draco had been getting to know gone in a second. The mask had already thudded back into place, and Draco couldn't read what was going on behind it, behind those cold eyes.
Lose interest? Harry (Potter) had lost interest?
He grabbed Harry's arm. White blotches unfolded around his fingers. "How could you fucking lose interest?"
Cold eyes sized him up. "I don't need your dramatics, Malfoy. I have enough of my own. Your attraction was that there wouldn't be any dramatics. I don't love you. I wasn't planning on getting emotionally involved. No sob stories, no exchange of torment, nothing like that. I get all the dramatics I need from my friends. This was supposed to be time away from all that. You're boring, Malfoy. You're not the only one with troubles."
Little white fireworks were exploding behind his eyes.
"Fuck you, Potter. Fuck you! You can't walk away from this. I'll kill you first."
"You haven't got your wand. You left it in the classroom." He twists out of Draco's hold and walks away. Is this a final gesture of trust, turning his back? Or just another show of how beneath him Draco is, how unworthy he is of Harry's concern?
He tackled from behind, knocking Harry to the floor. Fingers around Harry's neck, pressing down, trying to squeeze some sentiment, some concern, some of that love he thought Harry had for him. Some of that love he thought that he'd seen in Harry's eyes.
His name escaped from Harry's lips finally, like a wheeze from a spent tire.
"Draco..." wafted through the air between them, before collapsing like the struggle Harry put up.
No struggle anymore. No fight. Harry wasn't going to leave now.

That first line was why I wrote that tonight. It was reverberating in my head. This story idea has been around since I read Season in Hell and thought it implausible that Draco let Harry walk away.

I'd probably read more fics if they were like that. Oh! And you didn't squander words, which is so nice to see.

I think the asides are less narratorish than what's going through Draco's head...put into the third person.
I'm not a big one for squandering words. Usually the other way around. *grins*
Well, it's how I began; reading well-written slash. Most odd pairings I follow are because I've read a well-written fic utilising that pairing.
