Have finally seen The Two Towers. It didn't come out here in Aus until the 26th of December, which I think is a bit of cheek considering it was made in New Zealand, which makes it practically ours. We've claimed the glory of pretty much all the rest of NZ's good things; Sam Neill, Phar Lap (if I remember correctly), poncy git from Beautiful Mind...

Having now seen The Two Towers, I went back and re-read the VSDs for this latest installment and they were twice as funny the second time around. Am also very gratified to recieve comment from Rhysenn agreeing with me totally that Aragorn and Legolas had ridiculous amounts of UST in second movie. Was just like Sam/Frodo moment on the boat in the first one. To quote from the entry: "...I realised that Aragorn/Legolas is indeed canon. Those are some seriously slashy gazes they're giving each other. Not even subtext. I counted at least four instances of unequivocally intimate behaviour between them."

Reading a comedic page about "how universities grade their final exams"...and the first one was this: DEPT OF STATISTICS: All grades are plotted along the normal bell curve.

It'd be funny if that wasn't how the Arts Dept of Melbourne (and possibly the rest of the uni) prescribed their marks.

I had a strange desire to look through my parents' copy of Coleridge and have discovered the beauty of Kubla Khan. There's a beautiful musicality behind it I can't quite describe.

And in case any of you were worried about my t00by outburst, I'm halfway through Christabel and have found it incredibly slashy. Immense amounts of UST between Christabel and Geraldine. Just call 'em how I see 'em.

To bed. I'm immensely tired; too much to even finish Christabel, or formulate sensical sentences, or even spell correctly.

Spent today not using my crutches and have immense hot pain shooting through my ankle as a result. Stupid. I keep forgetting about the stupidly injured ankle until it's too late. Damn, I hate hot weather. Am immensely glad that I could spend the day in only a mildly uncomfortable lukewarm house instead of head-splitting heat.

Oh, and reading the opening stanzas of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, I finally got the joke in the run-in Michael Wenton-Weeks has with the drunken wedding guests (on a train if I recall correctly). Douglas Adams is a god.

(Hur, hur. Dr Mildred Hubble, indeed, John.)

As a Kiwi and an Aussie I am outraged at this comment. he he he

I don't think Australia could ever possibly be able to brand New Zealand's land as its own. That is a totally different topic.

I'm just saying that Australians take credit for New Zealanders' achievements. I suppose we look to NZ kinda like a little sibling - you're gonna deal it some crap, but you love it anyway, and you can't help a fierce pride when they do something right.

Kubla Khan rocks. It's the one poem of decent length I ever memorised, too. It has such a beautiful flow to it, partially due to the metre but mostly due to the amazing images and emotions Coleridge is able to convey . . .

I'll want to hear Douglas Adams' recitation of it btw!

Oddly, I'm reading Otherland book 2 (started it last night), and it has a decent stretch that's a tribute to Coleridge's Xanadu. Very cool stuff, with the main characters boating down the Alph River past many an incense bearing tree, ending up in the caves of ice. No demon lovers or dancing rocks though.

Oh, gathered some more ankle-related advice from Mark (who's very knowledgable about such things):
Once the ankle is somewhat back to normal there's a few exercises you can do to increase ankle strength in general.
If you tape the ankle and calf in certain ways you can train the body to react to twisting your ankle properly, and hence not injure it as badly.
Strapping the ankle during sport probably won't be much protection, but wearing ankle braces may help.
A physio ought to be able to recommend exercises and general treatment to help it recover more quickly (though from what you've said your mother hasn't been very forthcoming?).

Apologies if none of that is new or helpful (probably isn't, with my luck and your frequent ankle injuries), but oh well. Worth spouting out anyway just in case, I guess.
