Wh00t! I know nothing about American politics! I scored 3 out of 12. One was a guess, one was correct, and the third I only knew because I read Clive Cussler as a child and remember the answer from Deep Six.

By the by, does anyone know how to pronounce Lucius? Is it:

  1. Loo'keeus

  2. Loosh'us

  3. Loo'seeus

  4. or:
  5. None of the above.

Oh, and by the way, I'm in The Hamletmachine for the Fringe Festival now. Just in case you cared.

I care! Now I have even more reason to go see it. And wish I was working on it... *sigh*

I think it would be pronounced Looseeus. It's prolly pseudo-Latin, and I think that's the correct Latin pronunciation.

3.

And I got 8, and should have gotten 10 out of 12. But a couple were educated guesses, and some were because I knew the answers weren't what the most obvious choices were.

And what's The Hamletmachine? I'm all a-curious now.

Hmm, depends, if we're talking origional latin, I;d say loo-see-us

But it;s actually a moderate-ish-ly common name in Britain among those with more pretentions than sense and don't mind paying for the child therapy, and is more often pronounced lou-shee-us or lou-shus

i replied similarly to another entry, but I'll mention it again here; I believe it's currently prnounced as in #2 - at least, according to the pronunciation that used in Titus!

::swoon:: Ah, Sir Anthony Hopkins speaking Shakespearean....

It depends on a number of things - the dialect from the area you're from and the time that you're talking about, and even they aren't set in stone.

If we're talking about the more traditional italian "church" latin, then it would be Loo-chee-us, but if it's germanic latin, then it would be Loo-tsee-us.

So I'd be inclined to say "None of the above", just to be difficult ;)

Oh, and I now see you've found a source that see loo-kee-us... interesting...

Hmm. I'm more inclined to say Loosh'us (actually I'm more inclined to say bloody sick fucker - er.. sorry.. that was <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/~weasley_riot/>Ron</a> speaking.. Er.. but I can see myself saying.. er.. number 3, as well. I think Loosh'us is pretty stamped in my head, though, and it's hard to change a pronunciation. Like after I'd read the HP series once, naively, and at the END of it got told that it was Her-my-oh-knee, and not Her-moinh. That's right. Laugh it up. thess

Well, apparently there are *two* ways in which you can pronounce "c"s in Latin, depending on which area and era you hail from ... so 1 or 3, I think...blah.

With Italian you'd choose number 2.
Also that's how they say it in "Gladiator"....
