Apr. 17th, 2002 11:59 pmAn innocent bystander from one of Nat's & my writing class has stumbled across my journal. Do I descend on him like a fiery plague of fluffy armchairs, or do I leave him alone?
Choices, choices.
After pondering that for all of...ooh, must have been a second, possibly two...moving on.
The Buffy musical episode screened here on...Monday? Something like that, anyway. Must have been Monday, because everyone always irritates me by talking over the night before's Buffy. Don't get me wrong, I love Buffy...it's just that I only started watching it in January of this year and I want to watch it in order. I made a special case for the musical episode, of course, but otherwise I'm only up to the end of season three and I'm desperately trying to keep myself in the dark as to what happens later...as much as I can while still not blinding myself and refusing to go on the internet.
Aaanyway, as I was going to say, a musical and a Buffy episode - could there be anything more wonderful? Actually you'd be pretty hard pressed. It was definitely one of the better episodes, I think. I can't speak post-season three with any authority, of course, not having seen any of it.
The only other musical episode of a non-musical show that I've seen is Daria! (and I don't think I've even seen the whole thing...), which was a very different creature. Having seen as much of Buffy as I have, it's quite clear that Joss Whedon has some very clear ideas where he's going with the series. Daria, being a solely comedic show, doesn't explore serious character development until season 4, with the introduction of Tom as a major character. Daria! takes place during season three, which also boasts Depth Takes A Holiday, which most Daria fans loathe with a violent passion (Rather like a certain season of Buffy, perhaps...?) presumably different from an apathetic passion. I haven't actually seen Depth Takes A Holiday, myself, so I can't vouchsafe its quality, but I must say that the transcript reads like a fanfic.
I was going to do an indepth analysis, but hell, I'm tired and have an even shorter attention span than I've been displaying at uni recently.
Went to see the Four Noels tonight for the Comedy Festival. It was good, as I expected. Saw their show a couple of years ago and played with the possibility of seeing it again, but it didn't eventuate. Took Nyssa, my sister, who's a wonderful person and reads my Livejournal.
Sat in the workshop inspired by the fan art Liam received (why did Liam receive it? Hmm, possibly I need to put our email addresses on the site), I actually experimented with drawing slightly more in the style that I drew Mik, Tybalt and Harley for the forthcoming edition of my website (Just as soon as I actually have time to revamp it...). I swear I was actually paying attention to the class, for most of it. I did zone out occasionally, and had the incredible knack of doing it just when Jennie asked me a question, or she told us the homework assignment, or equally important moments. I started to feel like the student (Ben?) in Jules' version of my homework exercise for last week. I'm sure Jennie was aware of the irony.
Anyway, I started drawing me and Liam, in a vaguely Wackiness style, then I happened to glance at Jules, and realised he had the same moustachy-beard thing that Liam actually has (as opposed to the standard goatee I tend to draw him in), so I drew another of Liam. I drew a half-decent version of Tycho, then attempted Nat and failed miserably. Managed to get her hair to look good, and then fell down several metres from the finish line.
Dimetapp is tasty. It'd definitely be my drug of choice to overdose on.
Scene: Emergency Room. INT
Nurse: It's an overdose doctor.
Doctor: Do we know what from?
Nurse: According to her parents, she overdosed on Dimetapp.
Mother: [sob] She had fourteen bottles lying around on the floor, and one still clenched in her hand...
Doctor: Dammit, we must build a better world where our children don't overdose on sinus medication.
Oh, look, I have some eggs left from Easter.
Just was skimming over the entry to realise I'd mistyped Depth Takes A Holiday as Depth Takes A Parade...which is probably an amusement that will only be funny to obsessive Daria fans. Hmm.
You know what? Anita Blake needs a funky Brit vampire like Spike. Jean-Claude just doesn't quite measure up, I'm afraid. He's more the Angel-broody type.
Well, I'm just about done now. My theory is that the longer the post, the fewer notes posted. I wonder what the bell curve for posted messages is? Oh, and by the way, if Sandra reads this far, I now have AIM... but I can't remember your login whatsit.

Date: 2002-04-17 07:23 am (UTC)Nat and I were crushed when we found out James Marsters is American. However, Anthony Steward Head kicks serious arse. Admittedly he's scored bonus points for being in Jonathon Creek and Rocky Horror Show, but still.
I have photos of ASH in RHS in my Rocky Horror song book. He played Frank.

Date: 2002-04-17 12:35 pm (UTC)Here I have to attack people for mocking my Spike's accent *sulks* no dissing Spike!
And Jean-Claude is cool, and gorgeous, and smart, with killer dress sense and style an' stuff. But it'd be nice to have a modern English vamp, or a REALLLY old fashioned one :)
Which book you on? And have y'seen the Meredith gentry books?
