The Dog Days of ... er, January
Jan. 28th, 2009 10:05 amWe're staying at my parents-in-law, thanks to four consecutive days 40°C or over – today through to Saturday. Yesterday it "only" got to 36, not 40 as it was predicted. That's hot enough in our house, which has no airconditioning, and a North-facing back wall of GLASS. It had reached 32 degrees inside yesterday evening.
It's a bit weird being here, although in terms of internet usage I'm sitting at a poorly designed computer desk plugged into the modem, instead of being at home on my treadle sewing machine table plugged into the modem. (Apparently their wireless router is equally stuffed. It certainly isn't working even when I'm right next to it.)
I have less to do around the house, obviously. I mean, I could scrub Vivien's shower stall. Or I could not. And I'm not sure we have to fix our own dinners; I think that we're eating with N&N (who are usefully eating mostly vegetarian at the moment).
So I guess now is the time to focus on writing job applications (BLAH) and doing creative projects.
And by the way, I think it's my fault we're having such gruesome weather. Steph says it's because she planted basil, but this didn't happen when we put the annual basil in. I think it's because I'm having a kinesiology appointment today. Last appointment, last week, was also on a horribly hot day. Sorry, everyone.
