I like this one, because I've managed to sneak a sort-of pun in there. I referred to Melbourne as the "city of storms". This is a reference to the fact that everyone claims that Melbourne's weather is so bad (which is bollocks. I LOVE rain and I can tell you we don't get that much. And as I recall, Sydney has a higher rate than we do), and the fact that our Rugby ... (er, Union? No wait, League) team is called Melbourne Storm.

AHAHAH I KEEL ME.

Anyway, this is a prayer for rain, which Australia always needs more of. I should probably write a prayer of thankfulness to accompany it.

Zeus, Thunderer, Cloud-gatherer, Rain-bringer!
Your supplicant calls to you from the city of storms!
Your children cry out to you.
For too long have we missed the touch of your rain
Your clouds have been silent and dry-eyed against our plight.
Throughout our country, animals have been slaughtered;
Not for the gods, as is proper, or even to feed the people,
But rather for the ravenous maw of drought, who is no friend of man.
Gather your storm clouds, Thunderer, that the people might look up
And their mouths fill with songs of praise for your power and majesty.

I love it!

Long before I even knew about the Greek gods, let alone Zeus, I was always strongly drawn to thunderstorms: the rush of power, the electricity in the air, the way that they washed everything away and left the world pure and new and vibrant with life. Truly a magical experience.

May I add this to the site? And if so, how shall I credit you? I've been using delirieuse but I don't know if that's how you really want to go by.

That'd, in part, be all those negative ions making you feeling so happy! ;P

Yes. One of the first gods to take an interest in me was an Incan storm god. I haven't seen him around for awhile, but it was awesome to walk out under a storm sky and just feel his Presence, stretching from horizon to horizon. I've always loved the rain.

Yep, feel free! If you could credit me as Zoƫ Melissa, that's be good. I might try and write a few more (I'm really enjoying myself), but I don't/haven't yet worked with a lot of the gods on your list.

And I love the pun. Not enough people do that these days. I wrote a whole poem where the acrostic spelled out the word FUCK over and over again. The funny thing is, it's a pretty decent poem, and most people don't pick up on it - including the person i wrote it for. (She had laid down a new arbitrary rule that no one could use the f word on her list - or rather, no one that she didn't like, since she let others get away with much worse. So I wrote the poem, she loved it, requested to put it on her site, and that's when I pointed out the acrostic. We've been mortal enemies ever since. :D)

And rugby seems like a game the Greeks would've liked. Lots of strong men throwing each other all over the place!

It's one of my favourite sports.

Oh, do I love some good biffo. Served with a good pie and some tomato sauce, of course!

I remember reading that, and not noticing it until I saw your story about it on your blog, and read it again.

It is a good poem. :)
