I'm going to make me some paste and affix the labels properly to all our glass storage jars. No more rubber bands for us! (I refuse to use sticky tape on principle.)

Also, I want to make this cake. And have a drag party. Everyone, girls included, has to come as a drag queen. I'd play showtunes and divas (although Mariah and Celine will not get a look in). It'd be AWESOME.

And look! I've converted my LJ to-do list into a list of things (at the moment, specifically recipe books) to buy. I'm so clever! Now I'll be able to glance at it, and say, "Yes, [livejournal.com profile] wittgensteinian suggested I get that Bread Bible. That's right! I'll buy that with my paycheck", because you see, I will be employed sooner or later.

I've just used 'con-tact' (well, the home brand version of the stuff). It works well, and I just use the scrag ends from when I've covered books in the past. I print out labels on the computer, then stick them on with the book covering. That makes the labels waterproof too :-)

We recently finished labelling everything in our pantry, because [livejournal.com profile] winikoff's Mum is pretty dim, for a very bright person. She'll literally pck up a jar full of tea bags (you can see them from outside and ask "are these tea bags?". D'oh! And she keeps askig whether the sugar bowl till contains sugar every week! So we even labelled the sugar bowl with a neat little 'SUGAR' label!

Now she doesn't ask any more! :-)

I'm avoiding plastics and things, hence why no sticky tape, much less contact! Useful idea, though.

I've pasted paper labels onto the glass jars we're using. While on one hand they won't be very water-proof (but then they don't really need to be), it means that if we change what's inside it's much easier to get rid of the label than, say, a sticker. In theory, just soaking the glass jar in some water should do it. The paste and the paper should just break down and wash away. There's several jars in our cupboard that MINL has labelled with old Tupperware sticky labels that just aren't true any more.

Plus, I can feel virtuous, because paste = flour & water, and so both the paste and the paper will decompose well; I like that they won't stick around for 5,000 years. It makes me happy. Once we have our own kitchen, our pantry will be stocked with lots of glass jars with pasted-on paper labels! Plus, I have printed out beautifully decorative borders that I just need to scribe the description into, and voila! Instant Ye Olde Apothecary look. The three teas I bought look nifty!

You must take a photo of them and post it once it's all done :-)

I'll certainly take a photo of the tea jars! They're the prettiest of the glass containers we have at the moment. I want more ...

Priceline actually have some really nice glass containers. And Savers had some excellent beautiful glass jars, if you don't mind them not matching, although they also had some matched sets too. Ikea is another good place for glassware, if you need more jars. But check out Savers first, I reckon.
