I am reasonably computer literate. Why then can I not get f--king BitTorrent to work? I'm two or three episodes behind on Lost now, and it's killing me. Those episodes won't be showing in Australia for ... about three months. I think the tenterhooks will kill me. Please, please, PLEASE let BitTorrent magically work on my computer.

No love,
Me.

What exactly is not working?
Is it the actual torrents?
This site http://www.btefnet.net/ is fairly good for torrents.

Is it downloading the program? Instaling it? Make sure you're getting the right os program.

The last one you got was Hearts and minds right?

111 - hearts and minds (boone)
112 - special (walt)
113 - homecoming (charlie)
114 - outlaws (not on till next week)

I have special and homecoming, if you cant get it working. They have boards there that might be more helpful than me.

I thought I had up to 113, being Hearts and Minds. I am now slightly confuuused.

And going to bed, rather than trying to get things working, as I unexpectedly have Work tomorrow.

DO you have a portable hard drive or anything? A visit here might be in order if you do :)

That, or if you have re-writable cd's I can burn them.

Well, I've been repeatedly re-watching them, so they're hardly wasted. ;D

Hehehe, that's alright then! If you want me to burn them, just let me know what you're up to :) I could probably stop by before I head to the city to watch Hide & Seek and then go see the MSO at Sydney Myer Music Bowl.

Ooooh, bumped into Kim last week when we saw the MSO. And two other MHS boys who I know, but can't remember their names cause it's been so long :(

I'd suggest getting a proper BitTorrent Client like Azureus to help you out, too.

I can't magically produce the people who have the actual .torrent file, but Azureus at leat lets you control things like who's uploading from you and how many seeds you're actually getting stuff from as well as which servers you're connected to.

I've had two different clients, and both have pulled exactly the same shit error messages on me. I'm gonna have a go at the FAQ [livejournal.com profile] naewinter linked me to above, and then I might uninstall this one and try Azureus. Which will probably give me the same error message.

'Least I have the .torrent files for the two whatsits I want to download, right?

It's not you having the .torrents that makes the connection. It's other people being online with them available for you to get at that you need to worry about. If you can't get hold of someone with the file, you can't start the download. That might be what's causing the error, you just can't find the file at the time you're looking. It happens to me all the time when trying to get Anime.

I know. I don't think that's the problem - I was trying to get one of the recent episodes of Lost. Trust me when I say the problem's probably from my end. It may be a thingie with my firewall or whatever. I'm going to fiddle with that and see if it works.

I've never used BitTorrent, so I'm not sure if you're using it to get a specific format or anything like that. But.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/lost_eps/

That community has manymanymany sources for the episodes in a variety of formats along with requests etc. It may help, I hope.
