Woo! Terry Pratchett! I advise you take the oportunity to ween some of his talent from him through osmosis ie: running yourself against him rapidly.
on second thought....admire from a distance.
On a more selfish note... I would be very interested to hear what you had to say about Neo-Dandyism...
My current project is a presentation/explaination of Neo Dandyism, including, but not limited to, Steam Punk, Victorianism, New Romanticism, Romantic Goth, and Chappism. (Neo Dandy will be used to describe all of these things for simplicity's sake) It is not limited to the male aspect, and it's primarily about the creative social culture that is alive now, but it also includes the forefathers of the movement and the evolution from its roots.
1. What is it about today's culture that is so disagreeable to the Neo-Dandy that he feels the need to rebel?
2. Do the formalities of the Neo-Dandy suggest a desire for strict social and class seperations?
3. Are Neo-Dandies always rich, educated, and/or privilaged?
4. Who are the Dandies (Victorians, Gothic figures, Artists, etc) that you consider to be the godfathers of your movement? Who are the current forerunners?
5. Dandies have been described as the "Right wing reflection of the Bohemian." Do politics play a role in the Neo-Dandy lifestyle? (As far as thoughts on sexuality, women's rights, censorship, religion, etc)
6. Is nostalgia an important part of Neo-Dandyism?
7. Do you long for a more restrictive and repressed society? If so, would it be a more receptive environment for rebellion?
7.5. Are you of the opinion that our society is already restrictive and repressed? If so, do you rebel against it through Neo-Dandyism?
8. Describe a heidious faux-pas.
9. Is there anything sexually appealing about Neo-Dandyism?
10. Is outward appearance and aesthetic value the heart of Dandyism? If not, what is?
You don't have to answer if you don't have to... but think of it as a web-quiz for Dandies. I would be curious as to your thoughts on it. Alison has already published her replies on her blog.. hehe.
a reaction, and a quiz.
