Sid Meyer's Pirates. About the only game on the PC that I actually enjoy and will go back and play (apart from the Sims, which doesn't count) is Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri (now with expansion), also known as SMAC (like the drug).

and not to mention the fact that john howard himself said that the interest rate scaremongering that he's doing is not based on fact at all, rather just on his own opinion.
fuckwit. this is the same person who thinks that family first would be a better party than the greens. at least the greens are not living in the 50's and have policies that will benefit our future. "Families" are overrated, when they basically mean a man, woman and 2 good little christian children.
Grrr... get so angry by stupid stupid conservative Australians. Get some perspective. Vote for people who might make a difference for the not so well off, stop being concerned about whether your own stupid tax cut to your $100,000+ salary isn't enough.

Or how bout the fact that every serious Australian economist, including non-partisan government bodies and former governors of the reserve bank predict that interest rates would be identical regardless of who's in charge?

Admittedly, I do believe that Australia needs tax reform, and not necessarily in the way that labour is advocating. Admittedly, labour politicians annoy me with their incessant talk of helping the 'battler' and their being beholden to the trade unions, but they're still a damn sight better than the coalition.

That said, I'm voting green, if only because they are the only significant party to come out in favour of gay marriage, which despite being straight, is a really important electoral issue for me.

As far as the unions, I agree that they need protection, but I don't like the fact that they actually OWN the labour party (not hyperbole, they actually do), which I think gives them WAY too much power, and prevents a labour government from ever doing any meaningful industrial reform, which is overdue in some sectors.

I was talking to my ex-housemate (and one of my closest friends) today. I was telling her that she and her girlfriend were very bad influences on me, turning me into a straight gay advocate! lol

Actually, I have a feeling that it comes from two things:
1. That I grew up in San Francisco
2. That I have a very strong personal sense of justice. I get REALLY upset when I see things that I think are patently unjust. And discriminating against someone just because of their sexuality (which I don't see as a choice in most cases) is patently unjust.

When I first moved here, I ended up in an all-boys Catholic school (despite coming from a family of atheists) where the first thing all they guys wanted to know was if I knew 'fags'. In 3 1/2 years, not one of them could come to terms with the concept that my paediatrician was not only gay, but an AIDS activist who treated AIDS patients pro bono at his practice (and this was in the ugly early days of AIDS). They were all convinced that he must have molested me, which used to make me so angry, since he was one of the sweetest guys I've ever met. Then there were the two old men who were friends of my dad, 75 and 90. It was only when I was about 16 that I realised they were a gay couple who'd been together almost 60 years!

If you think you have it tough, living with liberals, spare some sympathy for me: I live under the same roof as someone who voted for the one nation party.

NO I AM NOT JOKING.

I would find it hilarious that the liberal party is basing all their strength on their apparent economic superiority, that is - I would find it funny, if I was sure that Howard won't be voted in again. But I am not sure of that. Thus, it frightens me.
At least I know how to get into politics now. Blatantly and publicly lie alot.

They named Alpha Centauri just to get the SMAC acronym, didn't they ? I've seen a silly number of sunrises (well, would have seen if I wasn't indoors staring at a computer screen thinking "just one more turn") because of that game. (And Civ 2, sometimes it just has to be chariots and cannons, you know ?)
