This is an odd little inspiration I got into my head earlier today. It's original, and has no connexion to anything else I've written.

Language warning, with some adult themes.

One Good Deed

Fairy watched the woman two cars across beat her fists against her car in frustration, before she slumped over it and started to cry. Fairy took a deep drag on his cigarette and dropped it on the bitumen. He ground it under one heel of his boot, and glanced over at Russ.

"Maybe we should help her."

Russ, who was lying across the bonnet of their beat-up Holden sunbaking, lifted his head. He squinted at Fairy, shading his eyes with a forearm. "What are you, nuts? Fuck no. We're lying low, remember? Besides. Timbo'll be back with the beer soon."

"Don't be such a selfish bastard, Russ," said Fairy, extracting another cigarette from the packet and lighting it with his Zippo. "Come an' give us a hand."

Russ saw that Fairy was not planning on being argued with, and followed his tall friend over to the other, smaller car.

"What's wrong?" said Fairy politely.

The woman looked up at him. Though Fairy looked like a rugby player who'd given it all up for beer and motorbikes, he was softly spoken and polite when dealing with women, and they intrinsically trusted him. He had women fighting for his attention in bars when frequently Russ was left to brood over a scotch. He hated him for it sometimes.

"My car won't start so I got out to use the payphone to call my sister and tell her I'd be late and she said our brother's landed himself in hospital again and when I got back to the car I discovered I'd left my keys in it and I don't know what to do!" She was on the verge of tears.

"My friend here's quite good at getting into cars without their keys," said Fairy, gesturing to Russ. "And I used to be a mechanic, so maybe I can get your car started again."

Russ glared at his mate, but produced a small, slim, elongated piece of metal. He surveyed the car park, looking around with deliberate casualness. Once he was certain no one was looking their way, he leaned against her car door and slipped the piece of metal between the window glass and the rubber skirt. He unlocked it easily, thanking his lucky stars that it was an older model, and therefore a simple job. He looked over at Fairy, who was politely refusing to take a slip of paper, presumably with the woman's number on it. Russ spat on the ground in disgust.

"It's unlocked," he said, pulling the car door open.

"So what's wrong with it?" asked Fairy, folding himself in behind the steering wheel of the small car.

"The key won't turn," she said, watching him and nibbling on a thumbnail.

"Did you try turning the steering wheel?"

"I tried that," said the woman. "But it didn't make a difference."

Fairy wrenched the steering wheel a few times, while turning the key. The engine grumbled into life.

"The trick with a Mitsubishi," he said, climbing out of the car. "Is to jiggle the wheel while you turn the key. You get along to your brother now."

The woman thanked them both profusely and drove off.

"What did you do that for?" demanded Russ, as they walked back to the Holden. "Why didn't you get her number?"

"Because she's married," said Fairy.

"So? Besides, what the fuck kind of use was it fixing her car if you're not going to get laid?"

Fairy paused for a moment, leaning against the car and flicking away his cigarette butt. "Well," he said slowly, "I'm fucking her husband, so I figure I owe her something."

I swear that last line worked better in my head. Le sigh.

*dies* The sheer joy of having a macho male (looking, at least) character named Fairy...even that is overwhelmed by the last line. I am in giggly bliss, m'dear.

If I could, I would pimp this. But it's locked. XD So I figure you wouldn't appreciate that.

*snerks* It's a nickname.

I'll unlock it, if you want to pimp it. I'd love to be pimped. *preens*

*giggles, luffs you*

I actually wrote a bit from the sequel this afternoon. I'll be a bit busy the next couple of weeks, with trying to make this play not suck, but I'll do my best.
