I think I'm going mad. I'm trying to find canonical reference on whether JKR uses hello, hallo, or hullo. *facepalms* Let it not be said that I can't nitpick with the best of them.

I think she just uses "Hello" unless it's a special "pip-pip" type of character. Though now you've got me wondering... :P

I'm wondering, because I tried to skim my way through large slabs of text, trying to confirm her spelling of firewhisky, and I seemed to remember her using "Hullo". And of course Sam uses "Hallo", so I'm totally perplexed...

In the end, I just let it ride.
