Xsomnia...?
Oct. 4th, 2003 08:33 amEh. I may be smarter than the average bear (but with people like Bush out there, that's not hard), able to string together intelligible English sentences, draw better than your average stapler, but my parents sure gave me some crap-arse physical traits. Seriously. Is it all that difficult to get one freaking joint in my legs to work decently?
Just got home ten minutes ago. I stayed at Nat's last night, as detailed in previous post, and although we went to bed sensibly at about 11pm, I spent seven and a half hours not sleeping, being bored out of my tiny little mind. I have this thing where I find it really difficult--damn near impossible--to sleep if I'm cold. Our house is centrally heated, and even so I sleep under two doonas (aka duvets... god knows what Americans call them) at home, and since Easter this year, I also sleep under a thick felted cotton blanket. I sleep with socks on because my circulation to my feet seems to shut down at about 11pm unless kickstarted with insulation and/or hot water bottle. I also have this stupid thing where sometimes I just can't get my brain to switch off for sleep. This is why I go to bed listening to spoken word, or, failing that, music. For someone who can fall asleep on public transport in the blink of an eye, I have real difficulty falling asleep in beds, particularly when they're not mine. I've increasingly avoided last-minute sleepovers like this over the last few years for precisely this reason, though it's not usually this bad. It was 5am before my feet--and the bed--warmed up. Have you ever had the same song running through your head for eight and a half hours running? I have. If I never hear Tripod's song "Madge Does Shakespeare" again, I'll die a happy homo sapiens. At 6.30, I got tired of lying in bed and left Nat a note, saying I'd gone home. I'm feeling ridiculously chirpy for someone who hasn't yet had any sleep today. If it wasn't for the fact that my knees started playing up again (methinks because of the cold) when they haven't given me gyp for ages, it'd be a damn fine morning. Mornings are only nice when viewed from the wrong side, in my opinion.
Guess I ought to go to bed and get a few hours of sleep before I head over to Sara's.
