This is only in fragments because Daharja's computer loathes me with a violent passion.

I find it quite odd that the liquor store at which I purchased my absinthe (a couple of doors down from the 'istoric 'otel Young & Jacksons, on Swanston St) have most brands priced at around $60, apart from Pere Kermann, which is priced at around $120. It has a lovely looking bottle and label, but my sources on La Fée Verte proclaim it to be rather disappointing:

The liqueur itself is a pale green, is artificially colored like everything else around today, and offers only a synthetic candy-like aroma, much like Absinthe Trenet. When cold water is added, there is no louche. The flavor consists of the mild synthetic 'candy' flavor, which is not anise, followed by a certain bitterness and the sharp flavor of the alcohol. [...] If you take Hill's, which has virtually no flavor or substance, and add a little star anise, or this synthetic candy-like flavor, and/or perhaps a touch of absinthe extract, you could arrive at any of the beforementioned products. While none possess an objectional flavor (unlike some Czech brands), they do not offer much in the way of substance. Unlike the Spanish brands, you just
don't get much in the way of flavor for the money. Quite honestly, these products seem to be geared more toward just getting drunk than enjoying what you are drinking.

Nyssa, if you read this, can you please go to my room, and find the middle shelf (the one that has a little repostitory of stuff on it on the side closest the door) of my bookshelves. There will be a folded piece of paper with a girl called Danielle's phone no &c on it. Can you please email that to me at delirieuse [at] hotmail.com? Thanks everso.

I completed my first hook turn last night. It was a complete and unmitigated disaster, partly fueled by the fact that I didn't realise I had to do a hook turn until I was most of the way across the intersection. Thank god for 5am traffic.

Shortly after My First Hook Turn (trademark pending), a fell asleep at the wheel for the first time ever. I suppose that I should be glad that it's taken me this long, what with the fact that I tend to do almost all my driving late at night when I'm tired. In my defence, I have had very little sleep this week, and only slightly more sleep for the last month or so before that. I had also been up for verging on 24 hours.

I only went to sleep for a few seconds; long enough to start to veer left into another lane and scare the living and unliving hells out of me. I would have pulled over immediately, but one doesn't have that luxury on Kings Way. Some five to ten minutes later, Kings Way became Dandenong Rd, and I stopped for a brief (five minutes or so) kip right near Nat's old school. Stopped again around Caulfield for the fifteen minutes or so I should have taken the first time (and would have, if there hadn't been trucks roaring past). Was then only tired, and made it home the rest of the way without incident, arriving just before six.

I'd actually spent about an hour and a half acquainting myself with Dev/Simon, a friend of Mickey's, earlier in the evening. He's a narcoleptic, and we'd actually discussed the fact that he'd fallen asleep while driving a few times. I never want to do it again. Jeez, but it's scary. What's worse is that I was so tired, that instead of most of my energy going into attempting to stay awake (which is usual on late-night jaunts), half of my energy went into wakefulness, the other into trying to care that if I went to sleep I would die. The human survival system sometimes appears rather flawed.

I should probably go to bed. I have to be at the theatre tomorrow at 9am to assist with bump in (weurgh).

If anyone wants to email me before Wednesday night, I suggest using delirieuse [at] hotmail.com, as my regular email address (that my LJ one feeds into) is at home. It's not web-based, so I don't have any access to it here. I'll check my hotmail one regularly until I'm home.

And Zan dearest, what sort of exchange did you have in mind?

Well, if it's a parked car, then it's okay. But not while you're still in motion! (inertia is a terrible thing)
