It's my birthday tomorrow. My mail today was one envelope from Oxfam, an envelope with timesheets from Drake and a card from Nannie (my paternal grandmother). It had fifty bucks in it. Awright! I'm gonna get me some comics.

I like working at LaTrobe. It's easy work, and I get on reasonably well with my boss. Most of the time I'm only interfacing with Mark (boss) and Linda (woman who shares the tiny office). It's great.

Sara Coven and Jasmine (new person in coven) gave me presents tonight. 'twas awesome. Soap (which was good 'cause I'd been getting low), glitter, coloured pencils and a notebook from Sara, and two pairs of kneehigh socks from Jasmine, black and grey and rainbow. I'm very impressed with the socks. How did Jasmine do something so very me while barely knowing me at all? Anyway, rockingness. They got bananananana cake, too, which I adore. Was just discussing that with someone at work, actually. Also got two pieces of lemon meringue pie at work, but that was just coincidence. Nice coincidence, though. Plus, Chris made his chilli, which I am madly in love with. So all good.

I am very amused by this quiz, which aligns the MBTI with the Harry Potter 'verse. Being INFP makes me Lupin, which I'm quite cool with. I read [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge, after all. It also makes Dad Voldemort, which is immensely amusing, and Nys is Snape (HAHAHA IT'S FUNNY 'CAUSE IT'S TRUUUUE). I actually suspect that some of my favourite characterisations of Draco are actually where he's an ENTP, and ergo quite good at big-picture stuff, which an ESTP Draco would not be quite so good with.

"[I]t's a phenomenally brutal film that has little to do with Jesus' ethical teachings." - [livejournal.com profile] dragonscholar commenting on this entry, which you should definately go and read.

You know what I think is important? Getting out Jesus's message of forgiveness and tolerance. I think the world needs that more than a Jesus-branded gore fest. Also, if people could focus on the part where Jesus said that a good Pagan was better than a bad Christian (well, he woulda said Jew, but y'know.), that would be spiffy too.

Lipgloss and chocolate. Al didn't think she'd seen anything more seductive.

The woman was sitting at a table away from where Al was holed up in a booth, brooding over her coffee. Al had watched her slide piece after piece of chocolate over lips so shiny they looked glazed, and she almost forgot her angst.

The woman turned the page of her paperback romance and reached for the last piece of chocolate. Al couldn't look away as she watched the chocolate be engulfed by that pink mouth. The unnamed woman licked her fingers clean.

Al thought for an instant about going and asking for the girl's number, but she new of a million reasons why that would be ill-advised. Liz was dead, to begin with.

Al paid for her coffee and left the shop without a backward glance.

--Set in the world of my first NaNo, and dammit I'm going to go back and finish that book one day.

As I said to Buhfly, this is not the best thing I've ever written, but it was done quickly, and I think that's essential to turning off the internal censor, something Steph needs to learn how to do desperately. And the newer you are to an artform, the harder it is to do that. Write lots. Write quickly. Don't let yourself read over them until you're finished the first draft.

Fuck Orson Scott Card. Fuck him sideways and backwards. My interest in reading any of his works just plummeted faster than a baby tied to a safe.

Hmph. So. Birthday today. Parents got me various things, as well as a new bike helmet and an MP3 player. Kara got me Electric Six (mind you, I instructed her to, even played her the songs because she hadn't heard them), Nys got me 1602 issue 7, Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step, cinnamon tic tacs and a Butterfinger bar. We loves her right now.

Had dinner with my parents at Chadstone, which is a weekly thing for them. Went to see One Perfect Day again. It's still wonderful, and I cried again. Steph wasn't allowed to come out of her house, so I'm t00bing around at home. I've read my flist rather perfunctorily, mostly skimming for birthday wished, because dammit it's my birthday and we're allowed to be utterly self-involved one day per year. Today is my day. I'm off, now. Going to go watch some LOTR:TT special features, or maybe do a drawing. We'll see what happens.
