Vila Slav.
(pl. vili or vile) A woodland nymph who is possibly similar in characteristics to the Baltic vele. In some cases, the vili were seen as male versions of the russalki (spirits that were similar to mermaids; some sources suggest they are the spirits of drowned girls); but more often the vila and russalka were interchangeable.

There's this really interesting article on introversion here (linked through Julian). People often find it difficult to believe that I'm an introvert, because I'm loud and unashamed of drawing attention to myself in a crowd when my friends are around. There was a few interesting things in this article:

  • Introverts are also not misanthropic, though some of us do go along with Sartre as far as to say "Hell is other people at breakfast."

  • How many people are introverts? [...] "a minority in the regular population but a majority in the gifted population." (heh heh heh)

  • ...[M]any actors, I've read, are introverts, and many introverts, when socializing, feel like actors...

  • Are introverts arrogant? Hardly. I suppose this common misconception has to do with our being more intelligent, more reflective, more independent, more level-headed, more refined, and more sensitive than extroverts.

  • How can I let the introvert in my life know that I support him and respect his choice? First, recognize that it's not a choice. It's not a lifestyle. It's an orientation.

As you can see from the quotes I've nicked, it's a very funny article. Go. Read it. You won't regret it.

Had a so-so day today. It was toodamnhot to do anything... it took me about three times as long as it should have to put the washing out on the line because I had to keep ducking inside for a few minutes so I didn't expire.

All things considered, however, I managed to go to the post office and buy the stamps and so forth to send my letter thingie to Zan. Now it's all sent. Took it down to the post box with the dogs; I didn't post them, however.

I also walked 5k in total on our walking machine. I discovered that the way to have fun was to put JC Superstar on while I walked. I was so busy singing and bopping along that I barely noticed the time. That 5k (which took a little more than an hour to complete) wasn't all done together, though. I made one 20 minute run, and one run of about 15-20 minutes, and the rest was in about 5 minute chunks. The ankle still isn't as brilliant as it could be.

That's about the sum total of my day. Not 'orribly exciting, but productive. In other news, it's my birthday this Thusday. WORSHIP MEEE!!! [/Zim]

Oh, and I burned myself rather badly while cooking dinner tonight, right on the soft inner flesh of my wrist. Sigh.
