Harry Potter is Robin Hood. While he has a "certain disregard for rules", and goes against many of his teachers, he gives unswerving loyalty to Dumbledore.

Now: for HP, read RH; for many of his teachers, read Prince John and the Sheriff, for Dumbledore, read King Richard.

So what Robin Hood character is Snape an analogue of?

Ummm... except for the fact that they're convinced that Snape is behind the whole consipracy, whereas Snape has been keeping an eye out for HP the whole time...

Although Snape doesn't want to seem to be favouring HP in class, he *does* act as a "good" and fair character... I don't think you could treat him as a Prince John or Sheriff of Notthingham Character..

You don't have to.
1/ This was just fun. It's not necessarily an academic hypothesis.
2/ If we're looking at the Errol Flynn movie, Snape counts as one of the mysterious Friars travelling with King Richard in disguise.

One of Richard's entourage? *shrugs* I don't know. Give me a while to think about it.

I think there might not be one, to be honest. Not many characters have loyalties as complex as Snape's.

Snape's the character that gave me the most to believe in in Rowling's work. I'm not sure that makes sense outside my head, but work with me here...

Snape's complexity take HP beyond the simple children's fantasy and allow it to become something more.

I'm also personally hoping for a similar complexity from Draco later in the series (a la Cassie Claire's epic fanfic Draco Dormiens/Sinister/Veritas), but I may be disappointed there.

I quite agree. Snape is by far the most complex character in the book, and his divided loyalties - and the pain they cause him - make him seem very much an adult book character in a children's book story.

I'm also personally hoping for a similar complexity from Draco later in the series (a la Cassie Claire's epic fanfic Draco Dormiens/Sinister/Veritas), but I may be disappointed there.

Hmm, may have to look that one up. Not sure I hold out much hope for Draco, though.

No, neither. The potential's there, though; Draco having to decide whether he wants to follow in his bastard father's footsteps or become his own person.

I really, really hope his character comes in to play as something other than just a foil for Harry &co, though. There's so much potential depth there...

Neither of those two are suspicious enough. Harry & co loathe Snape.
