[livejournal.com profile] moritari really hates the "poor Drakie-kins" idea of the whole crappy Lucius-Draco relationship being the sole reason for why Draco's a slimy little git. *shrugs, grins* That's fair enough. As someone pointed out in the comments after her entry, Harry was also abused as a child. You can't blame Draco's personality on his lousy upbringing. This is definitely true, but I like that sort of detail in HP because it gives a little more depth behind the characters; the "villians" (Tom, Draco & Snape) are in danger of becoming two dimensional cardboard cutouts otherwise.

Personally? I like my Draco as in Draco Veritas, as sharp-tongued as Blackadder or Spike. *grins*

Which Slytherin Are YOU?

brought to you by Quizilla

You were a very normal student. Almost everyone liked you and you had good grades. Next year, you were probably going to become a prefect and then ultimately
headboy/headgirl. You had lots of promise. However, one evening as you tucked yourself into bed, Voldemort appeared and killed you. Oh well. It happens to the best of us, doesn't it?

Take the How would you die @ Hogwarts? test by Shaolin.

Crap. I bet I'm the random person who gets 0.02 seconds of screentime while dying, too. *grins*

*sniggers* Daniel Radcliffe is getting into old-style punk. He likes the Sex Pistols.

The boys in this weblog on The Leaky Cauldron are talking about how their voices have broken. Steven (my practically-cousin)'s voice has just broken recently (admittedly I haven't seen him for awhile), and he's about 16. I unashamedly gave him shit for it. *grins* You've gotta love (practically-) family.

my voice broke over night when I was about 15 or 14, it scared my family when they heard it at first. I thought it was sorta funny.

*Grins* I would have loved doing that if I was a bloke. I would have faked it several times, though; lowering my voice to a strange masculine growl in the mornings...

I actually lost my voice once after a school choral competition (in which I was playing a guy). Amusing thing was I only lost my regular range. So long as I spoke as a tenor, I could speak fine. 'Twas filarious. :D

It's true that Draco does seem terribly 2 dimentional at times - and I see why they're trying to give a "reason" for the he behaves - but it seems such a cop out to say "ahh, bad upbringing. Not his fault at all".

I'm lucky to have had a good childhood, but experiences with some of my friends, who didn't, have just made me surer than ever - bad things might happen, and you can deal with them and move on, or brood over them and take them out on other people. Even at 11, a child is old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, and to make up their own mind about their behaviour. I think that's especially true in a situation such as a boarding school, where kids are isolated from their parents and rely on each other.

And plus, Draco is just so much more sexy when he's evil.

... I'm not sure why I just wrote this here, instead of in the thread which i started, but nevermind. :D

I agree that Draco's upbringing isn't the sole reason for his evilness, but I like to think it has a part to play... you could think of it as the critical "Luke, I am your father" moment... Harry chooses to be good and Save The World, Draco chooses to have really, really good hair and a much better scriptwriter and keep the good guys in business with his Evil Plots(TM) once a week from 7.00pm to 8.30pm.

I personally kinda like the idea of Draco fighting on the Side Of Good(TM) and giving Harry and even harder time because of it (thank you, Cassie Claire...), but I don't like badly written fics where suddenly he realises the Evil Of His Ways and fights beside Harry Potter, losing all suavity (is that a word?) and good lines in the process. I'd much rather have Two-Dimensional-Evil-Draco than that. Three-Dimensional-Evil-Draco is even more fun, however...

I must confess that I'm a bit of a fic whore; I'll read and enjoy almost anything provided it's well-written.

Well known fact: evil is sexy. Lucifer didn't get evicted because he went up in arms against God, he just beat him in a pageant.
