Well, we're entering the final stages of housesitting, which is most of my stuff remaining in my car, though it's beginning to be brought inside in dribs and drabs.
I don't know why I thought that fetching things from the car in the wind and rain barefoot was a good idea. Holding a heavy large box and trying to get the front door unlocked while your feet go beyond numb-cold into burning-cold is not fun, either. I may or may not have filled the bathroom sink with hot water and perched on the edge like a monkey, soaking my feet until they returned to something approaching normal temperature.
Still, it was worth it, for the moment when I stepped outside and it felt as though the top of my head had been lifted off and filled with storm.
I have dressed for warmth for our
fatladydigest meeting tonight. I am thinking of it as "Oxford chic": longjohns, wifebeater vest, pinstripe slacks, white pinstripe business shirt, a sort of dark purple over-vest (is there a better name for this?), school tie (it's not Eton, but ...) I even have (kneehigh) argyle socks. Oh yeah. I just wish I knew where my brown corduroy jacket was, dammit. Probably in a suitcase in the boot of my car, but who knows. I may have to be resigned to my new ($14) maroon velvet blazer.
Oh, and hurrah for the $100 voucher I received in the post for OPSM, and universities which allow you to pay your fees online!
