I almost had a post, but then I decided to mock Walter Scott for having an enormous head and looking like a grey alien instead.
It strikes me that Chopin must have been beautiful when he was alive. Ditto Keats. Shakespeare, too has clearly been given bad press by those engravings on the backs of books of his plays. Because he always looks feral in those. I bet his agent hates that. Robespierre looks so peaceful, as if he's just asleep. Aw.
I was surprised by the number of death masks with facial hair intact. They shaved Ned Kelly's, and I was always pretty sure that was for his death mask. Maybe Australians and/or criminals get different treatment.

This is long and convoluted...
Date: 2004-11-05 07:28 am (UTC)Wow, Keats is pretty. Your links have now completey changed the way I read poetry. You should be proud.
OMG
Keats wrote an Ode to Apollo (http://www.john-keats.com/)
<3333!
Robespierre utterly looks like someone who I wouldn't want to piss off.
OT - break through
I am a genius (http://www.livejournal.com/users/nephnie/22939.html?mode=reply)
This is not.
Date: 2004-11-05 07:33 am (UTC)He is.
I love R.
I read.
How the makers of "Prick up your Ears" got the title alone past the censors I've no idea...
Date: 2004-11-05 12:19 pm (UTC)How come he hasn't been in a Shakespeare biopic yet?
Inevitably he's prolly gonna be in a Scott Weiland biopic...

Date: 2004-11-05 04:27 pm (UTC)death galleries should only be visited at 2:30am, it is fitting.
I will have to look around that place a little.

Date: 2004-11-05 06:05 pm (UTC)Keats sometimes looked pretty: http://learningat.ke7.org.uk/english/ks4/year11/Keats.htm
Or very silly: http://englishhistory.net/keats/images.html
And that last link has many images of him, including one of him 'listening to a nightingale' and another of him on his deathbed. Brilliant.
Robespierre utterly looks like someone who I wouldn't want to piss off.
Tss, he doesn't scare me.
Ick.
Date: 2004-11-05 08:21 pm (UTC)He was ugly.
Short and Sweet
Date: 2004-11-05 08:23 pm (UTC)Re: Short and Sweet
Date: 2004-11-05 11:50 pm (UTC)Yeah, hope I'm special enough to warrant some great portrait like that. Except it will be me 'listening to screeching cockatoos in the evening' because...we don't have nightingales...
Re: Ick.
Date: 2004-11-05 11:51 pm (UTC)Cromwell, eh? I hear some people don't like that guy. His would be an interesting head to see...

Date: 2004-11-06 03:05 am (UTC)He had warts on his face.
Re: Short and Sweet
Date: 2004-11-06 03:07 am (UTC)Well, I would certainly like 'listening to nagging family members' haning on my wall, it would certainly be a conversation piece.
Re: Ick.
Date: 2004-11-06 03:08 am (UTC)Actual WARTS?! This I must see....
Re: Ick.
Date: 2004-11-06 03:09 am (UTC)Though, I was 12 at the time, so my memory may be a bit blurry.
Re: Ick.
Date: 2004-11-06 03:13 am (UTC)Perhaps your 12 year old imagination secretly added warts (and all) to the memory. Hope he realy does have them, though, that would be intriguing to see.
