And Your Mother Too.
Aug. 27th, 2002 10:49 pm1) I have one shoe off and the other one on.
2) Nat, Emma and I went to see Y Tu Mama Tambien (sans accenty things because my character map no longer works for no identifiable reason, and also I can't remember where they go), and then has a Mexican-Medieval night while we ate tacos (mmm) and watched Disney's The Sword in the Stone, Excalibur and Robin Hood (for our subject Medievalism in Contemporary Culture. We were going to see Ghost World rather than Y Tu Mama Tambien, but Em overslept and finished work late. Ghost World will prolly finish soon, whereas "Your Mama" (<-- me being lazy) has only just opened. "Your Mama" was a good fillum, and Nat has already documented our disappointment with it in her journal.
3) Had extreme depressive fit today due to bet with Liam that I am almost positive I'm going to win, and Nat thinks so too. Did my typical "retail therapy" which involves me buying books until my back or bank account breaks (or both). Now have Tolkein's translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a good trans of the Winchester MS for Le Morte D'Arthur (which should be called La Morte D'Arthur - dodgy Englishmen) and a hardcover edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, all three of which are relevant to Medievalism..., and so are partially justifiable. Nat and I also had our first Starbuxian experience, which we swore not to tell Saxon about, but he never reads Livejournal, so that's okay.
4) Spent reasonable amounts of today reading aloud from Harry Potter, and attempting to do the voices, which was much fun. During the first stint (only the first chapter, unfortunately) Saxon bitched at me cos he didn't want to listen, but ended up listening and seemingly enjoying himself, so that was okay. Poor boy has never read it himself, and saw the movie first, which was unfortunate. Nat, Em and I should actually have already read Harry Potter for our tute this week, but I seem to have lost my sister's copy somewhere, and so haven't. I've read it before, so that should be alright, right?
5) Started writing a new Wackinessy thing last night, and Em made her first appearance ever. Is basically me mocking Excalibur, as there are not enough "very"s in the world to describe how very, very bad it is. Not sure whether it will be an actual Wackiness strip or a very short comic book style derivation instead. Seems to be lending itself to the latter at the moment. We'll see.
As predicted, Emma looks a bit like Liam without the facial hair, but with breasts.
Not sure whether deep and meaningful discussion of the last two weeks is actually going to happen as that would involve large amounts of time, and it still hurts a little. Stay tuned, same bat-time, same bat-channel.
(Let me see if I have this right: does Y mean and? Because the structure of European languages lead me to suggest that Tu probably means Your {Et tu, Brute [or however it's spelt]}. Mama is self-expanatory, and I actually recognised tambien in the movie itself {when Tenoch was saying "and me" just before admitting to...doing the same thing that Julio had done [desperate attempt to avoid spoilers while too lazy to engage mind to use LJ cut]. I think I'm right. I like trying to decode languages I don't speak.)
