AHAHAHA

I was talking with a friend about how I wanted to build my own house, and that I liked Victorian style houses (I also like Edwardian, but I didn't mention that at the time). He said that I should use the Australian Federation style, as it's more suited to our landscape.

So I checked it out (not knowing too much about architecture except in the most vague sense).

And it's my favourite style, the one I had been taking photos of (before my phone was lost/stolen) for inspiration: the front verandahs with timber handrails and tiling on the floor, the deep red or brown brick, the leadlight windows, the fretwork. I want a back verandah as well, I think.

So yeah, Dave, I'm totally going to use the Federation style as a jumping off point.

I love Federation style. I love the sprawling disavowel of symmetry. It feels natural and cosy. I sort of wish we were building in Adelaide so we could've gone hard in that style, and used stone.
