'Cause Laim and I had an argument:

scan
v. scanned, scan·ning, scans
v. tr.

1. To examine closely.
2. To look over quickly and systematically:scanning the horizon for signs of land.
3. To look over or leaf through hastily: scanned the newspaper while eating breakfast.
4. To analyze (verse) into metrical patterns.
5. Electronics.
1. To move a finely focused beam of light or electrons in a systematic pattern over (a surface) in order to reproduce or sense and subsequently transmit an image.
2. To move a radar beam in a systematic pattern over (a sector of sky) in search of a target.
6. Computer Science. To search (stored data) automatically for specific data.
7. Medicine. To examine (a body or body part) with a CAT scanner or similar scanning apparatus.
8. To digitally encode (text, for example) with an optical scanner.

Oh, and this is a must-click...or I'll keelhaul you. Or something.

So I asked Laim whether he'd follow me to the Gates of Hell...I think I'm pretty close to a best guy friend *grins*.
So, my results for the Send A Straight Boy to the Gates of Hell Project? Not completely satisfactory...he seemed to decide I needed rescuing. Hmph.

Delirieuse: Liam, if we were in an alternate universe and had magic wizard powers, and I was about to die, would you follow me up to the gates of hell? And would you make a big flowery speech about doing it, or would you just go?
Corybantic: Yes, and no, respectively.
Delirieuse: Yes to the gates of hell and no to the flowery speech?
Corybantic: I might make a note of it on my Livejournal... something like "off to the gates of hell to rescue dani... might be gone 'till friday. Wish me luck"
Delirieuse: Hehe...although you're not actually *rescuing* me. It's more a brave-companions thing.
Corybantic: "oh, and if someone could ring work and tell them I won't be in."
Delirieuse: He...yes.

Okay, hopefully settling the gaffa/gaffer argument is this website:

gaffer n. The bloke in charge - I believe it primarily refers to the foreman of a building site, but can be used reasonably universally. In the film industry the gaffer is the set's chief electrician, in charge of pretty much anything with wires attached to it.

gaffer tape n. The heavy, slightly meshed sticky tape used to silence potential murder victims and to reliably and effectively attach small animals to tables. I had originally defined this as being "duct tape" but I'm told this is eroneous because duct tape melts and welds onto things, while gaffer tape doesn't. As my contributor points out: "seven years of work in the theatre industry has taught me... don't use duct tape on $2400 lights". I am told that our term derives from the film studio, where the gaffer will use the stuff extensively to hold bits and pieces down on set.
